    SBECII Type II?

OK, so I've come across a 2nd type of SBECII. Or, maybe it's an SBECIII. I really don't know. This one is for a 3.0 V6 for a customer. It came with the flashable Toshiba chip that came in many of the SBECII's. I socketed it and lo and behold, the 87C257 works, too. Not a surprise since it can be swapped for the Toshiba chip on the SBECII's.

BUT - I looked at the board and it appears to have either a 74HC373 or '573 latch chip on the board. Meaning, it shouldn't need the 87C257 with the built in latch. So, I tried a 27CC256 and it also works. The 27SF512 did NOT work though. I suspect it's because the A15 line must be connected to the MCU on this board.

Does anyone know anything about these SBECII revII or SBECIII's? Whatever they are?

The SBECII board P/N is 4632377. The SBECIII(?) is 4632910.

Maybe. I have to check the binary I pulled off it. It's not a file I had before.

OK, so it turns out there are 3 different SBEC-II types. Maybe one of these I have is actually an SBECIII, but it's hard to tell. There are some interesting differences between them...

Interesting as in potentially useful to those that tinker with tuning?

Not really. More like generational changes and such. Might be of use to me if/when I'm asked to put a flash module in one.

I also compared hardware with the Neon FCC and the 2 TCM's I have.
