    Spec clutches

How are these working out for your customers? I am interested in getting one for my TIII shadow build, I was wanting the stage 4 solid hub 4 puck. Can you get the S4 and will it work with the R/T flywheel and crank sensor? After killing 3 clutches by losing the springs prematurely, Im done with sprung hubs.

    Re: Spec clutches

I didn't get mine through FWDP but absolutely loved my Stage 3 6 puck. Lighter than stock so it would rev up quicker, and the hotter it got the more it gripped. When I pulled it out after a couple years it showed very little signs of wear as well as the Fidanza flywheel I was running it on. I only pulled it out to upgrade for the new power levels I plan on making and wanted to go to an unsprung hub. The nice people at SPEC recommended a stage 5 with their high clamp plate and cut me a deal on the upgrade as well. I wanted to go with a unsprung 3 puck for the light weight but they didn't think it would hold the power.

I was thinking about the s5 but for an extra 100 the only point of me running it would be to say I did it.

I plan on having a mild TIII in the mid 400s, if I get a he351, 500 would be the goal.

At its current state my TIII is killing a t2/t3 clutch at about 17 Psi with the 50 trim.

torque is what you're concerned with. The stage 5 is for my 2.5 Masi 16v. Hoping to make 500/500 at some point or more.

you are going to need more than a stage 3 on a heavy car if you are putting down 400+
The stage 5 will hold over 400 and if you were having issues with springs, then an unsprung might be a good idea.

What about the stage 4, what will it hold?

Here's what David Norton at SPEC told me.

"You’ll need a stage 5 for 500 ft lbs…the best the 4 would handle would be 400 with a super clamp pressure plate. The st5 will actually drive as well as the 4. I can rebuild the 3 to a 5, but not a 3 to a 4."

    Re: Spec clutches

I run a spec stage 2+ in my neon and love it. I was told by SPEC that it should easily hold 400hp in my 2400lb car. The stage 2+ uses a combination full faced ceramic, and Kevlar. Its drives like a stock clutch, but holds perfect.

Mine is the modular neon clutch with the billet flywheel. $519. should be a lot less since you wont need a modular clutch.

Thanks for the replies guys, I figured $500 for a clutch so the stage 5 is still a deal.

    Re: Spec clutches

How much does the spirit weigh? I have a 6 Puck sprung clutch in the Daytona and hated it on the street. The pedal was not hard, it just have very rough engagement. Im glad that lighter cars can get away less obnoxious clutches.

The TIII is going in the shadow so its not incredibly heavy. I have no problem with an obnoxious clutch, I actually like them better. I was just wondering if I should go with the $329 stage4 or the $429 stage5. Both are solid hub just one is sintered iron and the other is carbon graphite pucks.

I guess I could go with the 3 Puck stage 4
