The difference I believe is the single sided clutch disk has more steel mass to absorb the heat from the fiber next to it.

Interesting theory. I don't think heat is our enemy, we just need more clamping force per say, Dodge never figured these were going to be built for 500+ whp, lol.

It is heat that burns a clutch. That is why I like the thicker steels near the apply piston of the direct clutch. The steels absorb the heat from the shift. The tighter than stock clutch pack clearance helps control the flair or slip, which also keeps the heat down in the clutch pack.

Yeah, heat, but that is caused by slip, so your theory to me, with that single disc of yours, will create more slip due to lack of clamping area, hence why we want clutch's for more surface area, IE double disc manual clutch's can hold way more than a single disc.

I think I see the translation problem. I am suggesting that the two fiber disks, placed in the stack next to each other, back to back, is placed in the clutch pack to replace ONE fiber.

So, if room allowed, the stack could be in this order. Steel pressure plate, two fibers (where they touch or lie against each other remove the fiber material down to the steel backing), steel, fiber, two fibers (where they touch or lie against each other remove the fiber material down to the steel backing), steel, fiber, thick steel plate, snap ring.

Same amount of clutch surface area with two more sets of teeth/splines to engage.

I never thought this was going to be so hard to explain.

Pretty cool setup Brian. How did you figure it out?

When you look at the stock return spring, you can see witness marks that it was touching the forward drum. Also the drum will have some scoring. The outer clutches seem to show more heat as well when this is occurring.

    Thanks.

Do you offer the spring and if so, how much?

This could get rid of the dreaded 2-3 slide bump.

That's kind of what I thought you meant... Do the springs add pressure over the stocker or are they just spreading the load more evenly?

Yes, $200 for the spring retainer, 12 springs, and a machined stock piston. Extra springs are $4 each. I have 1 left and more on the way.

The load is more even but another one of the nice features that this offers is the ability to add or reduce spring return pressure. This comes in handy especially when dialing in the 2-3 shift timing.

Re: Auto trans: What do you guys do to your clutch's for extra discs?

By the way, I was thinking about it more, and although J B Weld might be suitable for some purposes inside a tranny, gluing clutch disks back to back with it might not be a good idea. I am thinking that due to expansion and contraction and rotational loads, that it would be quite likely to flake out from the edges, which would not be good for the rest of your transmission. Maybe if you just wanted to tack them with it, with a small splodge near the hub/center it would be okay. But I doubt it's ability to cope with stretching as a thin film over a large area, between thinner pieces of metal, that could also deflect or vibrate some as well as stretch with heat load.

.... just in case anyone took me seriously.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind for future use, if needed,
