HaHa! You guys crack me up! The spirit had a little rust on the floors, nothing real bad. I parted it out because it was hit hard at some point in its life and would not have felt right selling it to anyone. I wanted to take the spirit to cecil on the 10th but that would have put me back about a month and half on the glh progress as I needed a lot of parts off the spirit.

Yeah I wanted to run the spirit too, life just kind of got in the way this year. I always want to put the drive train from the spirit in a L body. I never really planned on doing it this soon, but I came across a nice shell that I could not pass on.

    Re: lengel's spirit r/t progress

The car is currently at Brian slowe's shop getting a custom intercooler built with 3" piping. I had to cut my intake apart to shorten the runners so it would fit in the L-body. So he is welding the intake back together. The lower rad support got cut out and is being replaced with tube to gain room for the rad and to stuff the biggest intercooler core we could get in there. There is also a bar that ties from the new tube rad support to the bell housing then to one of Brians tube K frames. Hes also mounting the rad. Once I get it back I will have to put the gas tank in, run the fuel line, and do a few other little odds and ends, and I should be good to go for this spring. I will post some pics when I get the car back.

It almost sounds like you are making the transmission an integral part of the front end bracing. That is interesting.

    Re: lengel's spirit r/t progress

I'm going to guess it's the opposite as I was looking to do the same thing. By getting rid of the traditional bobble strut, which I'm assuming Adam is doing, and moving the mount to the engine side you are taking any undue stress out of the trans case. Now the only attachment point is the trans mount which is just there to support the weight. Any stress from the new mount is contained at the face of the bellhousing. Maybe that's not why but it was the approach I was taking so and it sounds the same as what Adam described.

I think it is more like tying the K frame and radiator support together, while also providing an torque limiter (or eliminator) for the drivetrain.

That's what I did anyway. I have a 1x3" rectangular tying the chassis side of my front motor mount to the K frame. It runs directly under the engine/trans mating area, so we also fabed a plate to bolt in between, with a rubber engine mount from a B-van to act as a drivetrain limiter. It made sense as automatic cars don't have a bobble strut, and front end wasn't happy about pre-loading the drivetrain before launch.

I'll agree it does sound a lot like this, however he does say that it goes to the bellhousing in between.

That means the forces have to get transferred through the bellhousing.

It's not a bad idea I don't think. The torsional forces should pretty much cancel out if I'm thinking about it correctly.

Well this is all Brians engineering. It just seemed by going this route, would solve all the problems we were running in to with the tight engine bay, and engine mounts.

    Re: lengel's spirit r/t progress

Very nice! I see now...he solid mounted the engine and eliminated the bobble strut and the front engine mount. That engine is going NOWHERE! Hopefully it doesn't have to be adjusted side to side for plunge adjustment of the axles. Did he stand the engine up more vertical as well? It kinda looks like it. If so, VERY good idea!
