Ended up needing to shorten the axles by about a inch. The only way the stock axles can be shortened is to cut them and weld them back together, and I didn't want to do the so I decided to try and make my own. They are coming along well, just need to spline the other side, and then there off to heat treat.

So how did you do the tripod splines? I would guess you turned the whole thing on a lathe and the area for the tripod splines are a larger major diameter. There are a ton of ways to do the actual splines, so which did you choose? I don't know everything you've got access to, but I would figure that if a person had a mill with a 4th axis you could maybe have a special cutter (like a router bit for cutting specific profiles) in the mill and just do linear axis translation to cut one spline at a time using the 4th axis to register them at the correct angle of rotation.

    That's a total guess, though.

Yeah I just turned them on the lathe. To do the splines I made a 34 hole indexing plate, and mounted it to a spin fixture. These splines were 90deg so I could just use a end mill with a corner radius.

is there a strength/fit difference between cutting the splines vs forming the splines?

That's pretty much exactly how I thought you would do it!

In a very simple explanation, formed splines technically should be stronger because the machines squeeze the metal together, like shot peen or forging. Surface hardening will help longevity.

Cutting them only removes material, so the strength is all about the alloy and the post machining treatments.

In production, rolling the splines into the part is fast and repeatable. However, cutting them is also done all the time.

I greatly enjoy watching this vehicle grow - largely due to the thought and talent behind the project.

Amazing thought, effort and skill !!

Yeah, buddy! Those are what I want to run. Did you order them up to work with the Chrysler rail and electrics?

I got the 60mmX14mm and high impedance (I think they are only offered in high impedance) so they will work in the rail, but as far working with Chrysler electronics, I don't even remember if they use high or low impedance. I run Big Stuff 3 in my car.

Yeah I think it comes out to alittle over 200lb since they flow 2225cc @ 43.5lb

I don't think you get as much value running them on stock electronics. A lot of the value in them is having all the dead time and other information, information that is not useful in a custom cal. That information is what you are paying for since they are exactly the same as injectors half the price. You also can't run high end race gas with them. Only pump gas or ethanol fuels. You want to run race gas and you have to buy some cheaper less well balanced injectors.

Of course if you call Tony Palo and he things it will be a good value, they are great injectors.

What injectors were in the old Spirit dyno runs? Ragged edge of fuel limits?

Never had an issue with high end race gas (c16) with my ID2000's. They do caution when using fuels that contain MTBE though, the internal seal swell and cut the flow rate down. I dont think it will be an issue here though as Im pretty sure Adam runs C16.

Re: lengel's TIII Omni GLH progress (used to be spirit r/t)

I should have been more specific. I meant the injector plug. Wow...yeah, I fouled that up!

The only reason I would go with the 2000's is so if I choose to ever run ethanol fuel, I have the capacity to do so. I am still not 100% sure what I'm doing for engine management, so considering them is still valid.
