4 bolt wheels up to the task?

Honda bolt pattern wheels are dime a dozen, and you can buy adapters to convert to 5x100, strong enough-bolt pattern not the adapters? They do run stupid power thru 4 bolt wheels?

Alot of Fords also have 4 lug wheels with no issues.

Re: 4 bolt wheels up to the task?

Im pretty sure shearing the lug studs with power is not an issue for.. anyone.

So i would say the 4 lug design has no practical power limitations. As for the adapters.. just depends on how well they are built, i guess. My main concern would be if they used good enough metal for the studs that come in them.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

Re: 4 bolt wheels up to the task?

My concern is the load/power rating of a 4 bolt wheel to a 5 bolt wheel, as your loosing one stud. The adapters are fine, I know they can take the challenge, been using them for years.

I have more weight than a Honda and more Torque, but Mustangs are just as heavy as my van plus they can produce the same power.

I cant remember hearing of a single person who upgraded to more lug studs because they kept shearing them and totalling their car.... and im sure there have been some powerful 4 lug mustangs.

Re: 4 bolt wheels up to the task?

My concern would be them staying on during slalom course or road racing, not under power. Even then, if your not sure, go to thicker studs and lugs. i don't think the 4 lug is a problem.

Re: 4 bolt wheels up to the task?

so this got me thinking.. your wanting to buy a cheap set of 4 lug wheels and use them on your van with the 5 to 4 lug adapters? why not just buy 5 lug wheels they are not much more and if you find a set on craigslist for a good deal. but if your going to buy wheels for a 4 lug make sure they are only one size bolt pattern and not 100mm and 114.3mm(unabolt) the mustangs are 114.3(4.5) which are in theory better as they have more surface area to grab.

As I explained, Honda wheels are dime a dozen, I am not ready now but keep looking, the wheels I like are $2-300 a set for a Honda, for my van, the size is never around, so $600 plus for a new set.

There is a a set of Rota's I want, $350 locally with tires, but just can't swing that yet,

    It's probably just a "Whatever I've got, it's the wrong size" thing going on... 'coz I could use 5x100 or 4x100 and everything I see cheap is 5x114.5 or 4x108 or 4x112 or 5x5" ... ... ...

Re: 4 bolt wheels up to the task?

I remember reading about the road course shelby cars having premature wheel bearing failures and that was the reason for the 5 lug conversion. I doubt you'll find 4 lugs are limiting in a drag race situation for the reasons you already mentioned.

I think Dave Rose is looking for a pair of 4 lug hubs for his mid 10 second omni just for the wheel choices. His car is drag only.

Man, you don't read very well. I've been looking for years and 5x100 are always stupid money. I haven't found a decently priced 16" 5x100 wheel locally, that I liked.

How are you saving money when you have to purchase adaptors on top of the cost of wheels? 5x100. The way it came. The way it should be.

But then he can have multiple sets of previously ricer abused wheels. So he can just swap another on when they crack out at the "light curb rash"

Either that or his shrink said he should translocate his footwear fetish so he won't get caught sniffing the ladies shoe rack at the bowling alley again.

Why, cost. Add shipping etc, still ahead $2-300.

Your last saying, guess we shouldn't modify anything then, because it came that way,
