    Question about fuel pump

When I was pulling the fuel pump out on my turbo spirit I noticed there was a round diaphram at the very top, what is it? Do you need it?

I think it's a pulse damper of some sort. Junk it.

Never seen one for that model so maybe post a pic before you throw it away but if it is a damper, agreed with Cordes, toss it.

Yup...the new pumps don't use the damper.

    Re: Question about fuel pump

what the hell is it though? is it pressure related? I cant understand why they would need this in the first place? it is only held on by pressure from an Oring inside the plastic, its very odd. It looks like it could at some point contribute to fuel/pressure loss if the oring was to ever fail which face it in those conditions (gas) could be at anytime especially if its that old. I dunno but off it comes..

It is used to control the pulses created by the pump. This can lead to vibration and noise coming from the fuel system. You' ll be fine without it.

From what I have read it's not needed at all with the fuel pumps currently on the market.

Yep, its a pulsator, back in the days, when intank fuel pumps were fairly new, they had issues with fuel line noise, ie thumping, banging, due to the design of the pump, they either used that or something on the fuel rail. Technology has caught up and we no longer have that issue so delete it, as its also a place to leak as they get older and pump pressures go up.

Yep NVH nonsense. The one on the rail is for injector opening pulses, neither of my cars (sequential) have them but the older cars I've seen have them (batch)
