I know how that goes! It's coming up on my 1-year since I totaled my bike. I didn't get hurt, though...thankfully.

Remember, there are only 2 types of motorcyclists: ones that have gone down, and ones that are going to go down.

I still want a motorcycle! LOL They are addicting.

Glad you are OK! Bikes can be replaced unlike life and limb. As a fellow biker that has gone down, it could ALWAYS have been worse. Hope you recover quickly, and I'm sure the Shadow will be waiting for you once things settle out again.

yeah reaper1, my dad and I say that all the time. After 8 years of riding rockets, I was definitely due for a mishap. Thanks shadow24, could have been much worse. Looking at about $350 in bike damage (so glad I had frame sliders!) and a few weeks to heal up, had a leather jacket on but no gloves. Thin pants as well (shredded). Only going 20-30mph, doing a rolling burnout in the mall parking lot and it turned sideways and gripped, slammed me pretty hard and the bike slid forever it seemed.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Thank goodness for full-face helmets! Mine was very similar where had I not had it on..most of my face would have been fertilizer!

Ever since I saw a picture on Rotten titled "I love my Harley" (dude's face was split on half and everything below the eyes was basically missing), I decided that the ONLY helmet I would wear would be a full-face. Paid off, for sure!

Same with gloves...especially after my wreck. I wasn't a big fan unless it was cooler out...now...I'll have them on...period!

I am super glad you're ok, heal well and fast!

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Hey guys I need some opinions on a possible turbo setup for my car. My dad is working on a deal to get a new turbo for his 92 Cummins diesel pickup. I believe it to be a holset Hc1. My limited research has shown it to be very similar to an HX35. I have 10:1 forged pistons and plan to run at wastegate psi for quite a while. Any thoughts on that size turbo for my car. Stock cams yet as well. 7k rev limit, ported heads/intake, afpr. Btw the turbo would be free for me.

I would run it. My buddy will be running one on his conquest 2.6 build (ported heads, big valve, etc). Im not sure if your motor would be perfect with that turbo but its free and its a nice turbo.

    Stock cams + 7000 rpm = weeeeeeeee.

Is that still the one with the truly massive turbine housing? If its the later one that they downsized the housing i'd say its close enough!

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

I think you will need to put a different wastegate can on there so you don't run too much boost. Try one from a stock turbododge if possible?
I don't think its a big deal if the turbo is not perfect. For me, I would still choose a different turbo then the free holset if I could do it over again. Lack of parts that work well with these things is annoying.

Im a fan of external gates. Im not sure how well the internal gates work on nice turbos but the one on my cheepy was terrible.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Well, one thing about Holsets is they are not built crappily. They are attached to engines that are expected to last 300k+ in harsh conditions. The internal gate will function as well as it can as long as nothing is physically damaged. But like Ondonti said, most people running stock holset wastegate actuators cant achieve a low-enough minimum boost setting to safely tune on without modifying it somehow.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

The wastegate hole would probably have to be hogged out and radius'd. I am only making these suggestions because cost seems to need to stay around zero $.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Hey guys I really need to get my hands on a good 3.0/5-speed ECU so I can drive this car again. My car is a 94 but If I remember right 92-94 will work, maybe even 91's. Not interested in any more auto ecu's. They work ok but I want to eliminate all variables to diagnose my current issues. Car runs terrible right now. I can't find anything in the local yards. Any leads would be appreciated. Need one shipped to 17842 PA, I have paypal. Thanks.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

I found they run the same timing auto to manual ECU for SBEC II. The only variable for driving problems would really be deceleration (if at all). The failures I have had with ECU's were loss of coil driver and also a bad spot in a map at 2000 rpms. Unfortunately those were both my 5 speed ECU's so I have no extra. Auto ECU's are so much easier to find and make sense for diagnosing purposes since I wouldn't want to strap a good 5 speed ecu to a car with a wiring problem that is killing ecu's. I think thats what killed a second 5 speed ecu for me.

I am pretty sure I have a 92 manual ECU at my in-laws from Lucy 1.0. I'll be back there next weekend and can verify.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

I agree with Brent. Put a $36 automatic ecu from the junkyard in it until you can verify that nothing else is wrong. Obviously something else is wrong with the car and it has nothing to do with the auto vs manual ecu differences.

My 5spd 3.0 never ran a 5spd ecu and always ran great.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

From what I understand the V6 and the 4-cylinder ECU's operate pretty much the same. As Brent said, the only big difference between the two is most likely going to be controlling the engine under decel and/or no load freewheeling while at speed (clutch in for shifting). Some people a long time ago have said that using an auto ECU in a 5-speed application (either swapped or stock) will result in the elimination of the speed limiter (if you have one....I never found/hit one in my '90).

I agree with both Brent and Vigo...stick a known good auto ECU in it after checking the wiring and components (alternator, injectors, etc.). It could be the ECU, but it's not a very common failure.

    Check car-part.com. I found 3 within 25 miles of your zip for a 92 Daytona with a 3L-5sp...
