I had to beat down the tank flap on my dynasty. The guy at the exhaust shop didnt want to do it so i took the hammer and did it myself.

I also had to beat in the spare tire well a bit when i adjusted my muffler location to fit a tow hitch. Still, its all still in there and it works. Its just a matter of persistence.

So it turns out the new tank is designed a bit different. The flap is smaller but bent in a way that makes big exhaust even harder to intsall. Big rubber mallet helps the situation. I'm still not impressed with the bends in this "kit". I'd be just as well off with 10 ft of straight pipe and doing it with pie cuts.

Found and fixed a small rust issue while the tank and exhaust are out.

Ran into a problem trying to install a walbro into an aftermarket module. I made a thread http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...for-walbro-255 Any help is appreciated.

In the words of James Brown.. GOOD GAWD!!! You beat the mess out of that tank! I think if I would have been in that situation I would have returned it and sourced a factory replacement, used or not! This is part of the reason I don't like aftermarket parts sometimes. They say they are dirrect fit, but in reality they are universal fit across all models and years, and may not be exactly like the one you took out! It is SO frustrating!

Becuase the metal is new, this may not be as big of an issue, but having sharp, bent edges like that without being formed in a die can result in high stress areas which are subject to vibration and pressure fatigue. Usually this isn't a huge problem if the guage of the material is thick enough and it hasn't been work hardened to the point of being brittle. Keep in mind, however, that the areas that are crimped like that have been introduced to their failure point in plastic deformation and are closer to their ultimate failure point than the dented areas.

Pic of my quick and dirty temp. exhaust fix since I didn't have time to fit the 3" yet. Also pic of 225/50/15 DR vs. 185/65/15.

Got my Drag radials mounted up and hoping to hit the track tomorrow for the last friday night of the year. Gas tank isn't leaking, clutch holds like a rock, and the car is running like a beast.

The OBX makes for some interesting driving, I almost drove right into a concrete bridge when the steering wheel whipped unexpectedly. Gotta love leaving 2 smoking black patches in the work parking lot though.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

I'm convinced that the torque biasing LSD in a FWD car in the hands of an inexperienced driver was the primary cause for so many SRT-4 Neons to meet their early demise. With that sort of differential the car is literally point-and-shoot. Whatever way the wheels are pointed when the power comes on, that's the way the car is going to go! If there are ruts in the road, or something causes an unexpected change in direction while the power is on...the car WILL go that direction! You REALLY have to be on top of it in these cases. They make for GREAT handling and launching, but in those situations they can make the car a handful.

Lulz, I had an almost identical lashup on my Escort around this time last year I think it was, for a couple of weeks, the muffler rotted out completely, so it got a cherrybomb and a tailpipe extension with 45* cutoff clamped on... sounded kinda farty... only cut a few decibels off the open pipe.. also didn't seem to help performance at all, maybe even impaired it.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Soooo, ran a 15.37 tonite N/A. Was hoping for a little better but a couple things held me back, mostly my crap driving skills. Struggled to launch with the new clutch, didn't even beat my personal best 60' of 2.13 with the open diff. Ran a 2.18/2.27/2.27, couldn't get these BFG drag radials to hook for crap. I was sure I would nab a <2.00 with the LSD. I didn't do any burnouts since I was scared of breaking something so maybe that would have helped. The car sucks even worse at top end now. couldn't break over 86mph all night. (4 passes). Alignment is completely jacked right now too, I replaced a lot of stuff in the front end and didn't have time to get it aligned.

I was sure the stock exhaust was my cork but now I dunno. My wideband locks up whenever I use my line lock so my vids are about worthless. MPH stays the same whether I run the traps in 3rd of 4th. Within .04mph! afr seems to be mid-high 13's when I glance at the guage on the street at WOT. Didn't get my afpr on yet to try and tune it.

Car is still on stock cams/bottom end/fuel/weight/manifolds. Didn't use any nitrous, not even installed atm. Tires are mounted on 6" wide snowflakes.

Considering building a beast N/A motor with some nitrous on the side over winter. I wonder if these regrinds would be effective with stock compression? I dunno if I wanna commit to 10:1 yet.

15.37 @ 86 isn't too bad, really! The best I ever got out of my '90 Daytona was 15.9@85.1, but the 60' was something like 2.3.

I'd bet that warming up those BFG's a bit would have helped in the traction department. I wouldn't expect to see a higher mph with them, honestly. It might even go down! You have more rolling resistance.

The alignment probably had some to do with not having a good mph as well. Get the alignment right, warm the tires up a bit and let-r-rip! I'll bet you'll beat any PB's to date!

The DRs probably did need some heat. But, i have never heard anything good about DRs on these cars so i havent paid much attention to techniques. You're still missing power somewhere with 86mph traps. Keep working and you'll get it fixed sooner or later.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Well, Total fail on my part today. Slid through a stop sign and managed to stop just before crashing into a massive steel I-beam supporting a storefront. Slammed the car into reverse (fully stopped at this point) dumped the clutch and started getting some nasty wheel hop (in reverse) so I let off. The shifter was then stuck very hard in reverse. Managed to get into first with some ripping around on the shifter. Tried to back into a parking spot and I hear really nasty gear clash and no reverse. Let the car sit and came out at lunch time, drove it around the block fine in forward gears but still no reverse. Gear clash and then the shifter gets stuck there. I have to get out and push the car forward/backward to get into forward gears. Drove all the way home, about an hour and all was fine.

Right now I'm leaning towards something with the reverse lockout or a bent shifter fork. I've never had one of these trannies apart very far so I can't visualize how it works. Almost made it a full week after intalling OBX and new clutch

Yeah I totally agree. Gotta get the trans figured out now though. I've had an afpr for 6 months but something always comes up.

Guy just stopped in and bought the stealth. Feel like I lost part of myself though. Had a severe love/hate relationship with that car. Nothing made me happier but nothin made me more frustrated than that car. I'll probably have another one some day far in the future when I can afford to make one the way I want it.

I actually had the ride of a lifetime in that car earlier today. 140+ off and on for about 10 miles with a couple car guys in the training class I had today for work. The ol' stealth held it's own against the SOHC neon and ford zx2

I hope you were WAY ahead of them at 140+! Unless they were modded neither of those cars could even go that fast.

Seems strange to me that his fuel is that lean with simple mods. Agreed on it being a bad thing for performance.
