While commuting to class yesterday evening in rather heavy traffic I heard 'tink-tink!!!' and through feeling the shifting effort knew one of those damn little clips had come off Babied it there and on the drive home so the cable would not completely come out of the bracket and leave me in a no-shift situation.

There was a problem and I had a permanent solution

Wow. I've never had that problem before. I'm usually lucky to get them off without killing myself.

I've had the outside ones fall off before. Never the shifter side though.

Re: Cable retaining clips coming off

I had an inside one come loose before but never actually come off completely. outside ones the rear one I've had it work its way around so the closed end was @ the bottom but never fall out. Selector cable on both ends so I think its due to how that cable moves alot more than the crossover one.
