    Daytona Rust

Has anyone actually patched up a rusty Daytona, or is it just common practice to get a better shell? My 89 Shelby T-top has the usual rotton rockers in between the wheels and I would like to save it if I could. I live in Canada, so rust free cars are few and far between. Just looking for other peoples experiences with patching stuff up.

If you stroll across a rust free shell, its wise to pick up...but like you said....they are getting tuff to find specially the t-top ones...i am in the same boat u or...my floors are rusted...my rockers r shot..and my rear wheel wells are rusty....this all can be fixed as long as you have a welder....this next summer,i plan on redoing the floors in my shelby as those are the worst....i even have new replacement rocker panels that are sitting in storage...

Where did you find your replacement rockers? That is the worst part on my car. The floor has a hole by the e-brake cable, but nothing serious.

    Re: Daytona Rust

There's usually replacement rockers on Ebay for $35 each plus shipping. At that price, it can't be that bad a deal even if you have to rework them to fit properly, versus fabbing your own out of flat steel.

As for the rear wheel wells, the arches on the front fenders are identical. Rust free fenders aren't as hard to find, and can be shipped for semi-reasonable prices if needed. You'll almost undoubtedly have to do some patch work to the inner wheel wells, and to the floor where the rockers mate up, but even if it's not perfect at least it won't be visible once it's done.

At least that's my plan . . . My car is in the same boat.

I had to do some portions on the inside where the floor meets, but the outsides are solid, so no, didn't have to tackle those.

I wanna say Sherman or someone made them too, but don't know if they're still available.

At least the body kits on Daytonas cover these areas nicely, so perfect fit is not a life-and-death matter.

    Re: Daytona Rust

what i hated about them was that they did not go the entire length of the rocker, they stopped a few inched short of the front fender and over lapped a few inches into the quarter panel - so plan on getting a fender to butcher and tie into the quarter as well if going this way.

Sherman, but it doesn't matter who you buy them through, they all come from the same manufacture

Buy three. Cut up the third rocker to make up for the other two being short.

    Re: Daytona Rust

My rockers were rusted out on my LeBaron. I just had the body shop cut them out and make new ones. Can't even tell they were replaced.

    Re: Daytona Rust

The shop probably had a sheet metal brake, and lots of experience. I have neither. I have knowledge and training, but very little actual experience.
