Avalanche Z66, 2003, any good?

Hi folks,

Saw a 2003 Avalanche Z66 for sale that seemed like a great deal. Just wondering what expensive stuff can go wrong. I'm not sure I want to feed it's gas habit, but standard tow rating looks pretty good.

Also wondering what the 2WD is like in winter, did they have any kind of posi or trac-loc ?

Anyone in a $$$ insurance area know if they're good or bad on insurance? (I figure you guys in the cheap areas don't really notice +/- $5 )

Kinda worried I'd end up using it like a car and cursing the gas mileage... but for the prime reason I want it, rather than really need it, pulling a decent size camper, I need the butt spaces to take some of the gang with.

Thoughts?

I have never researched on it but i know a friend that has gone through 2 transmissions, but he also isn't nice to it at all

They are fine, if serviced, they can last. Check the VIN at a dealership, they will tell you if it has LSD etc. 2wd suck in the snow but if you have good tires, weight on the back end, chains etc, your fine. GM powertrains are one of the best out there, V8 wise.
