SDAC-CL 2nd Annual Chilli Cook-off meeting

So, last Saturday was the monthly meeting for SCAD-CL Chapter. It also was the site for the 2nd annual Chili Cookoff. After the success of last year's beef and bean-fest; decided to run another! This time we saw the typical variety of beef chilis, but with the addition of a venison version one with bacon. All were quite tasty, but it was Andy and Andrea's Venison chili that took the top honors.

We also had some rather creative desert options! Ron's wife, Autumn baked an awesome turbo valve cover cake and also brought in some car-shaped chocolate mini-cakes. If I had some gold stars, she would've got 11 for creativity and for chocolate.


As far as he meet goes.... was a pretty large turnout! It was held at Ron and Keith's Shop... which provided a nice amount of space... indoors! Which was important, since it's getting quite cold now. As the night went on, several people brought their TM's in and put it up on the lift to check them out.

We also threw a toy airplane at a map to decide next year's SDAC location. It landed on Tahiti. This should be interesting. LOL.. J/K. That will be announced in the next Up Front.

Overall funtimes like usual! I'm sure JT will add to this since I'm not really used to recapping things.

So, last Saturday was the monthly meeting for SCAD-CL Chapter. It also was the site for the 2nd annual Chili Cookoff. After the success of last year's beef and bean-fest; decided to run another! This time we saw the typical variety of beef chilis, but with the addition of a venison version one with bacon. All were quite tasty, but it was Andy and Andrea's Venison chili that took the top honors.

Not just bacon, it also had chorizo, portabello mushrooms, and mango in it, in addition to the beef of course. Plus 6 different varieties of pepper, some Jim Beam Black Label Whiskey, fresh squeezed lime, cilantro, cumin, garlic, onion, and probably some other things I forgot about, lol.

We just finally finished up the batch of chili I made yesterday. We've pretty much had chili for dinner every night since the meeting. The crock-pot I brought (white one in MB's picture), while filled to the top, was not all the chili. I didn't think I was making near as much as I ended up making lol.

Luckily my whole family liked it, not only did they finish off all the left overs, they asked if I'd make it again sometime. I liked it even more after adding the Naga Jolokia based hot sauce (also in MB's picture) to my own bowls.

All of the chili was good, I had some of each (and so did most everyone else!). I can't think of one I didn't like, and I've never been big on chili (especially if it has beans).

The cake was awesome! It tasted as great as it looked!
