Turbogods Twin enginge SRT Rampage AWD

I thought about building this for years! 2006 I was hauling off an 1984 omni ad a 1984 rusted out rampage and so I ad some fun that just kept growing (along with the rust) ad ended up with this

well after just playing with it and got so far into it realized i was wasting my time with this rusted out car so I went out and bought Two 2.4 turbo motors, and 2 large turbo kits and another rust free rampage to get real serious with this build.

    Start by stripping it down

pulling the rearend and fuel tank out

When i pulled the old motors out of the other twin engine car i made up this jig to show where the engine mounts should be and show where the strut towers will go, the k frame bolts up, and the shape of the frame rails.

I also test fitted the 2.4 intake and turbo/ manifld along with making up some engine mounts for fitting the 2.4 in the l body 2 sets, then i thought wouldnt mind making 2 sets because it was a lot of time just figureing where the motor should go to be centered and i dont want to go through that again better to make copies now.. then some mentioned they might want some so made more for others to buy and hope the extra money will help fund this project. If u want to put a 2.4 in an omni / rampage / charger go to www.srt4omni.com or mounts

I LOVE IT!! Finally a good use of drive by wire and electronicly shifted autos... might need two engine controllers, but only one to opperate the throttles (and traction control), as well as shift the two transmissions in sync!

I can't think of a better way (and in some ways easier) to go AWD! Heck, put LSDs in the trans and it's unstoppable!

I'm going nuts thinking of all the possiblities!

I currently have a megasquirt one for the rear engine I will borrow the ems pro (megaquirt 1 based) that is in m omni right now running a 2.4 for the front just bought an etra wiring harness for the ems pro i cheated

Oh keeping in mind trying to keep this project under 10k if i can which it climbs very very fast

Looks like one at least needs rebuilt as the shaft isn't coming out as far as the rest...

something i am curious about.. the springs hold up the car for the most part.. the resistance of the oil stops/slows the bounce/compression.. the 2 clean ones had no resistance either way up or downso i took them apart and cleaned them and refilled them with 5 30 oil and now they work great they just dont have the pressure which really isnt much anyway.

wonder why there is gas in a strut? I thought i remember way back when it was for pressure to help ride but not sure how that is. I was looking at modifying http://www.ebay.com/itm/GODSPEED-93-...item2a1491ee2d rs legacy coilovers off ebay and figured i could get all 4 fronts around the same price but they dont split the set.

been thinking of getting these http://www.ebay.com/itm/MIT-LANCER-R...item2a11c913c1 and use the konis and i coud adjust ride height

Re: Turbogods Twin enginge SRT Rampage AWD

The pressure is in there (usually nitrogen) to prevent foaming. Foaming will reduce the effective damping of the strut as well as reduce the ability of the fluid to dissipate the heat. In other words...it bad!

The oil you put in there isn't intended for this purpose. I highly recommend going to a motorcycle place and getting true shock oil if you intend on leaving them like this. Getting them rebuilt is an investment for sure, but in the long run it's a cheap investment for parts that are no longer available for our cars. Plus the performance that you will get from them over time will be better.

I dunno, multigrade engine oil might be fun, cushy ride until you start pounding on it, then they stiffen up

Actually, TIG welding aluminum IMO is fairly easy. As long as you can feed the rod quick enough, the welds almost make themselves. Practice some on scrap and give it a try.

well it is all the setting on the machine, the correct gas pressure, ect. just bought the tig machine and just got it wired up and the water cooler hooked up.

as to the oil.. i am curious how much stiffer it will be..

That is interesting on the nitrogen... does a motor cycle shop charge motorcycle shocks with nitrogen? I also stopped by a shop that rebuilds hydrolic cylinders and thy couldnt find a seal i could make work.. who rebuilds koni's? I also did this cheap way just to get me rolling being still need to buy soooo many more parts

No, bike shops sell shock oil, which is what you need.

Koni still does it and another place, I'll dig up the name.

Since we have drive by wire throttle bodies now and computer controlled transmissions, it would be a pretty easy task to split the signal from the ECU to multiple outputs. That's why I say you may need separate ECUs to manage each engine, but the throttle and transmission controls could be shared, synchronizing throttle opening/closing/traction control as well as shift timing and trans control.

I'm not intimately familiar with Megasquirt, but I seem to recall the newest version having support for both of these features. Additionally, this configuration would allow one engine to run while the other is just along for the ride, the split signals doing nothing until the 2nd engine is activated...

Should make the actual operation of the car much easier and rewarding. Once its up and running there may be room for more refinement, such as changing the balance of power to aid cornering/stability, but that's putting a pretty fine point on it!

Actually...not really. Mutigrade oil works like this: take 10W30...at room temperature it will flow like a 10 weight oil, but at 200* it will flow like a 30 weight oil at that same temperature. This means that the oil still gets "thinner", but not AS thin if it didn't have the viscosity modifiers in it.
