    Reusing rod/main bearings

Is there any solid concensus on reusing rod/main bearings That have hardly any usage on them.

Background review: I assembled the motor and through sh!tty luck it leaked oil out both of the galley plugs. To permanetly fix it (and do it properly as not to cause catastrophic failure from metal shavings) I pulled the engine out and broke it all down to the bare block, drilled/tapped for pipe plugs and ran lots of hot soapy water/bottle brushes, compressed air and brakecleaner through everything to get all the trash out.

bearing shells were labeled as to their exact installed spot on the engine. They have got maybe 100 miles/2-3 hours of run time on them at the most.

Ive re-used them as long as they appear visullay to have very few defects. Your going to get some use inidicator. How about some pics? Also I might add did you keep them with the rod they were installed on? If not then I wouldnt.

    Re: Reusing rod/main bearings

I've reused bearings many-a-times. When I disassemble an engine, even when I know I'm going to get new bearings, I always mark them from where I removed them. Just incase I have to refer back to them. I mark them 1 rod, 1 cap, 2 rod, 2 cap, etc, with a sharpie on the back side.

    Re: Reusing rod/main bearings

each shell was labeled. wear pattern was consistent but upon closer inspection there was some very light trash in the #1 main, #2 main and #1 rod. I know exactly where it came from so thats a non issue at this point.
I just said screw it and ordered a new set of both since they are so cheap and I dont need something stupid coming back to haunt me.

Nothing wrong with those, I'd totally reuse them. I've reused my bearings many a time and never had an issue as long as they look good. If the crush is a bit off, just spread them out.
