Diff bearing turning torque tool (Special tool L-4436)

I have the preload all set for the differential bearings and now I want to verify that the turning torque is ok.
What do you guys use for special tool L-4436? I was thinking of taking a old axle piece and welding a extension on to it. Is there a easier way? like running a long bold through the diff? I tried searching but no luck.

I can tell just by feel but then I do dozens per year.

take a piece of pile like conduit, "U" notch the end to conact diff pin. weld and old socket or a nut on the other then use a beam type inch lb torque wrench.

I forgot to mention this is a obx diff. No diff pin.

It reminds me of a muffler pipe expander in its theory of operation.

Any reason why I couldn't just use an modified axle?

I didn't want to wait for the tool to ship or buy one so here is what I came up with. Old jack handle with a socket welded on the end.

The pin slides into the oil groove in the obx. It worked

None really, I managed to satisfy myself it was "good enough" with a full axle, two nuts jammed against each other, 32mm socket etc... took a little messing around to be sure it was straight and not flopping around when I did it.... but in the end it worked.
