how does the connector come off the fuel pump? is it just the clip on the one side? i put this pump in about 2 years ago, but i cant seem to get the connector off now

Yep, just the clip then it slides up. If it won't come off, its possible it melted,

im goin after the sender, i dropped the axle and i can reach it without disconnecting the fuel pump wires. any tips for getting the ring off?

actually, it appears the severe beating with a maul knocked the float loose!
