    Re: Need Ideas

they're all new unfortunately (i say that because i'm hoping to find something wrong...) and it is a similar noise to ones from the previous belts.

just for my sanity....changing the rack wouldn't slow the car down right?

All i've changed since it last ran well was the timing belt and the rack for the power steering disaster...i'm thinking i just mis-timed it when i put it together....i hope....

maybe the noise isn't related to the poor performance? i tightened the power steering belt for the first time in a while...might have just done it wrong...

I doubt the noise is related to poor performance. The rack shouldn't cause any performance decrease. Not getting the timing belt installed in the proper manner sure can kill some power.

    ok...i was hoping...

the new belt has less than 3k miles on it an has a wear pattern down the middle, plus its riding to one side of the gear...(cant recall inside or outside) so i'm thinking it's on their wrong....

i'm going to reach out to the New England guys and see if anyone is willing to come watch me put this all back together (i got it apart again tonight). I used the FSM and a video like yours last time...though i didn't take the distributor cap off....and i think i'm a little off....

here's hoping... thanks again for all your help...was really weird to punch it and barely feel it. at first i thought either i was just used to it or the spirit r/t was faster..but i haven't driven it in forever and the numbers don't support the 2nd option...lol

    Re: Need Ideas

i put it to 12 degrees when i initially put it back together... i haven't checked it lately though

i'm thinking the CAM timing might be off....i don't have the cover for the belt, so i can't line the holes up that way...and i don't think my sprocket has arrows...

or whichever one the distributor affects...

i also don't have a scan tool to check if it's pulling timing? i know someone mentioned something like that...

The sprocket should have the arrows. You may need to scrub it a bit to make them visible, but it's there. I would bank on the cam timing being off if you didn't have anything to line the sprockets up with. Just make sure the little hole is at the top and the arrows are aligned next time and you should be all set.

Ahahahahahaha!!!! She's BACK!! Dave was kind enough to come to my house this past weekend and help me put the timing belt on and time the car. While he was here he noticed that the distributor cap and rotor were shot so we replaced them.

I finished putting the car back together this afternoon and took her for a test spin. She's all there again! Broke them loose pulling through fourth gear on the highway and she was putting me in the seat through every gear.

To be fair, there's is definitely some tuning needed. It takes a little longer to spool than i remember and it was running pretty choppy at some points so i tried not to be too rough. I will have to find someone that knows how to tune in my area, or maybe man up and dolly it down to FWD to get the computer issues ironed out once and for all.

So so happy...now to iron out some of the inconsequential details (stereo, wheels) since i know i'm actually going to keep it a while longer...finally...
