I'm glad everyone is having good results with these cables! David was very customer service oriented when I was dealing with them too. Maybe one day somebody(Vendor)will get a bunch made and start selling them in house. IMO, they are worth every penny.

    Cables are in!

I didn't get to test drive the car yet due to a small water leak in my new filler tank. Gotta do some rewelding on it. I'll report back as soon as I get to test drive, but I'm out of town this week, so it may not be till next weekend.

I may be able to do something with one of my suppliers for a bit less.
I need specs since I don't have any cable shifted cars.

They shift great so far! Only drove about 10 miles of in town driving mostly and they shifted great. Much better than worn out stock.

Someone weigh these cause if there's a pound to be saved + better cables then I'm in for sure!
    Stock cables weigh 3lb 4oz
These new cables weigh 2lb 9.4oz

Thanks. Guess I made my mind up on cable shift instead of rods on my charger seeing as we can now get quality cables built

Re: Custom SS Hiem jointed shifter cables.

My cables are in and feel great. Only issue I ran into is the cable that attaches to the shifter on the passenger side didn't seem to have the groove in the correct place. I had to make a small C-shaped spacer out of a washer to get the clip to lock the cable in place tightly. Not sure where the issue is, not really worried, just took me 15min to make the spacer and everything is great now. These feel way better than stock cables. A nice positive click-click when going from gear to gear. Well worth the upgrade. When my stock cable broke I picked up one from the parts store and it lasted about 5 passes down the track before the cable pulled out of the end where it gets crimped. I seen bad reviews about the aftermarket Taiwan cables but thought I'd try my luck. Brought that one back in pieces and got my money back!

Looking at getting a set of these over winter. Now looking at the pics, it seems that some different hardware is being used on the shifter itself?

So, other than the cables themselves, what all needs to be changed to make these work? I originally thought they were a "drop-in" replacement?

they are if you tell the guys at Push-pull to keep the way they attach the same. I had ball and socket style ends built into mine, all i had to do was tell them to match what i sent. My pics are in here somewhere

    Rob,

If you're looking at the pics that Reeves put up, he intentionally ordered his cables with heim ends in an effort to improve the accuracy of shifts, at the cost of having to re-engineer how the cables are mounted to the shifter and transmission selector arm.

So far, from what he has told me (He and I ordered two sets of cables , one for his Omni, one for my CSX, but I haven't had the time to install mine yet) he is VERY happy with the cables.

Re: Custom SS Hiem jointed shifter cables.

Thanks guys! Funny how the mind works. I looked at this a month or so ago and decided I didn't have time this year/season. When I came back on here and looked at the pic of Reeves on this page I remembered I needed to ask about that.

Now that the two of you have spoon fed me, I look 1 page back and there is all the explination I needed! lol I swear I'm Not that lazy! lol I looked and was sure I read this whole thread and can't believe I didn't get that!

So Warren, did you guys get/make up that extra hardware yourselves, or did you get it with the cables? Either way, any info on exactly what's needed? Wanna sell a set?

Now that I think of it, I believe my confusion was thinking these were Heim joint already And drop-in. So it's actually the non-hiem jointed cables that confused me.............

    Rob,
The completely heim jointed cables like I have on my car, and the set I have for Warren's car came complete with all the heim joints and jam nuts. I still needed to buy from a hardware store some 1/4-28 nuts/bolts. Then there are (2) spacers I made that have a 1/4-28 tapped hole that I welded to the trans end shift lever.

After using them for a while, I noticed a little slop in the factory retaining clips for the cables and lost one. I upgraded that to heavy duty C-clips and needed some shims for that.

Im thinking instead of buying a ball end (555 style) and having a clip fit over it, has david considered using a quick disconnect female end on the cable so there are no clips? Much like what the great lakes rid shift kit uses. Would that work or are our ball sockets not a standard hiem joint socket size?

I just bought a set, with Hiem joints on both ends, and could not be happier.

Those are freakin awesome. I wanted to do something like that but couldn't find a resource. Those will never go bad or break, they are bullet proof.
The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars, how fast can you afford to go?
