Re: Custom SS Hiem jointed shifter cables.

Everything has been made out of metal, i have yet to see them since they are in shipping back to my house. When I get these I will take pics.

Oh, and kinda crappy news..... David @ PushPull said that he'd rather not save any of the prints because everytime he see's our cables they end up being different . Of course me thinks since he doesnt save the prints how can he know they are different. Anywho, srry guys I gave it my best shot.... looks like you'll have to ship him a set of cables to have them made. This means if you'd rather have him make you a different cable end you can let him know when you call or Email him.

Anyone know what the turn-around time is yet, if we send David our own cables directly?

well.... took me around 3 weeks, im expecting my cables to show up at my door any day now.

ok, just checked.... make that 4 weeks. Altho now that he has done both styles of cables he may know what to use as far as materials go. Not sure if that would help with the overall time or not.

    Pics I promised

---------- Post added at 08:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:56 PM ----------

so far the everything is going well, I was able to install both cables and hook them up. Only had 1 issue with the way the cables were locked into place where they connect to the shifter/floor part. They were a little sloppy even with the "C" clip in place, I ended up turning the clip around and massaging things with a hammer . The ball end clips work great, no issues there. Also, I had to feed one cable up through the floor hole because the adjuster on the new cable was to fat and couldn't squeeze past the other shift cable from inside the car - no biggie.

I was working on the adjustment and after playing around with it for a while I decided to call it a day. Any hints for adjusting the shift cables? I was trying to shift the trans into first and adjust things from there but it was tough to tell if I was making an improvement with my adjustments or not. I think i'll grab a second set of hands to help me out, prolly be much easier that way.

So do the sockets go on your stock balls? Is there ANY slop there?

Thanks for the pics! They look great!

there is zero slop where the cups attach to the balls, no worries there.

Re: Custom SS Hiem jointed shifter cables.

Pulled my cables out of the OMNI. Mine has (3) ball/socket arrangements and (1) bushing with clip. Thinking of changing them all to ball/socket style (like shadows) or all heim joint style. If you are happy with the ball/socket that they provided, I may go that route. Was the price about the same? My thinking is that the heim joint will have less slop and also may be cheaper?

One of cables is definitely stiff.

You put the lockpin into the transmission shifter housing so the transmission is locked into neutral and centered along with the shifter cables. You loosen the crossover adjusting bolt and move the shifter until it is centered/neutral position and then tighten the lockbolt.

Re: Custom SS Hiem jointed shifter cables.

I have an '86 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z & currently doing an A523 Transmission conversion upgrade.

Does anyone know what length cables (both cables) "Exactly" I will need for this A523 conversion to correctly fit the '86 Daytona Turbo Z?

Has anyone used these cables on an A523 conversion for the GEN 1 body MOPAR yet ('86 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z) to know what length will be needed? How close in length would they be to the '92-'93 Daytona?

    Thanks Guys...

with my 88 csxt cables I also had them make 88 daytona Z cables. They were pretty close in length, to be honest i'm not sure where to even get a measurement from the new cables because they are very adjustable compared to the stock cables.

Not sure if it will be any cheaper but I promise you there is zero slop anywhere in the cables. Ive been driving the car since I installed them and everything is working out great with no issues to report.

Re: Custom SS Hiem jointed shifter cables.

Here's what I have mocked up so far. Hopefully after some custom spacers are made and I weld them on I'll have them working tonight.

Push-Pull forgot 2 dust boots, and forgot all 4 nuts at the end. Had to call them and David was super apoligetic and is sending the parts out today. Great customer service! Also I ordered 4 retaining clips and they don't fit so he's going to try to get the right one's or credit my money back

I ordered all ends with Heim joints as according to David they have more adjustment and are lighter (LOL) and I think over time they will last longer with less slop.

Is it just me, or do the retaining ends of the cables look like they're made out of aluminum instead of the heavy a$$ steel that the factory pieces are made from?

Someone weigh these cause if there's a pound to be saved + better cables then I'm in for sure!

As I posted in the other thread...they look worth EVERY penny!

    What spacers do you need?

What are you doing for the grommets in the floor that seal the inside from the outside?

Yes, they are made out of aluminum

    I'll weigh the difference tonight.

Because I ordered heim joints on all 4 ends instead of ball/socket like a typical 520/555 I needed to make (2) 1/2" long spacers on the trans end that will be tapped 1/4-28. I will weld these to the trans shift lever and then bolt the heim joints to them.

I have a single grommet from a Shadow(?) that uses a 2" hole (?) in the floor and both cables slide in the rubber. When you tighten down the single clamp, it squeezes the rubber and tightens up. It was stock on 520/555 cars AFAIK. Should work just fine with these cables.
