Help me take this steering column apart

Does anybody have step by step instructions on how to take the column apart? I hit a road block with the "thing" covering the turn signal cam. I cant see any way to get the cover off. If I cant get it done soon I will enjoy watching this headache of a car burn.

If its a saginaw you need a lockplate compressor or make one.

Yeah, search my threads...on of them has a bunch of helpful links from Cordes (and others). I got about 85% of the way down before i messed up the pins....

Go to autozone, rent a lockplate tool (they give you your $ back when you return it). Then the real fun begins.

    Edit: Found it for you:

I don't have the time to mess with it. I'm gonna go to a pull it yourself junk yard in the morning and find one out of a Lebaron.

Pffft...I do it all the time! If Napa isnt open I go to advance, its closer and they rent tools. I dont care if they know me, I pay them whats the difference.

Re: Help me take this steering column apart

I am so sick of this car. I swear this was the biggest mistake I ever made. I just thought that even if I try to save time by getting a column from a pull it yourself junk yard I won't have keys. So I'd have to pull it apart to swap ignitions. So either way I'm royally f****d. Anybody else feel as hopeless as I do? One step forward 5 steps back?

Locksmith can get you keys, but as Orangetona said, your own may just work....

I've been there plenty of times with my car. But i'm so deep into it ($$$ wise) i could never walk away. It usually ends up being worth it though.

Re: Help me take this steering column apart

So heres an update....I talked to a lock smith...they cant make a key unless the ignition is out. So theres a dead end...I thought I would try my luck and try to find a column at the JY. Found one but my key didn't work and they wanted way more than I have to spend. If anybody is wondering why I seem so frantic about this car. Its mainly due to the fact that my old lady got a job so shes gonna be taking the Durango to work starting monday. Monday Wednesday and Friday are the days my dad has dialysis to which I am his only mode of transportation. I have till Sunday night to get the car running. So if there is anybody in the area that would be willing to help me out. I would be insanely greatful. I would be willing to pay you or you can have my FMIC. I desperately need this car on the road.

yes, two weekends ago. had my transmission on and off twice. took all my weekend and i was exhausted for the following week at work. I get to do it again for a 3rd time now that my clutch is slipping.

the TD daily driver is a risky venture.

What's the issue with the steering column in the first place? Harbor Freight and Northern Tools both sell cheapo lock plate depressors.

I would NEVER have a TD daily driver...no chance...

If the Daytona was a DD it would have been scrapped years ago.
