NAPA sold me the wrong rear calipers... years ago!

Late in '07 I bought some remaned rear calipers for my car. I specifically told them 11" rear vented found on the '89 Shelby Daytona or Spirit R/T. I bought and paid for them, then the project went on hiatus until this past summer. I just painted the calipers with that Duplicolor caliper paint and went to install the shoes, and was like: WTF?! I grabbed a set of old R/T calipers and they looked exact, except the distance between the piston fully compressed and where the outboard caliper seats was over a 1/4 in tighter! Sheeet! I grabbed the original calipers from my VNT and sure enough, they sold me calipers for a solid rear disk setup. Now, I might be stuck with these things, and they ain't cheap!

I have my reciept and it says Dodge Spirit on it, but no "RT" I remember their computer doesn't say R/T but does say 15" wheels... their bad, but I'm going to take this one in the arse. Unless.... my sonic washer at work takes the paint off, and then I re-box (shhhh..) But might come out looking like azz to the point I can't return, or sell outright.

Anyone need a set of NIB solid rear disc KH calipers?

    Just had to vent....

Steve, resell them and get the right ones. I wouldn't even try to take the paint off and take them back. This way, your not at too much of a loss.

Must have gotten them for an ES.

Napa doesnt list stuff very well for our cars. Mainly because they dont break stuff down by submodels. They do with other vehichles though...wtf. I constantly have to do some looking to find the right stuff and luckily I know what im looking for.

Want the right part for an 87 SC or GLHS good luck. Nothings listed correctly. We do however list the correct o2 sensor and none of the other parts stores do, they just list a 1 wire.

I came to the decision a few weeks ago that I will not be buying anything car part related if it has a limited timespan warrenty and I know that it wont be getting used as soon as it arrives. Of course I do make exceptions like when buying parts that are only available from the dealer, because they may very well not be available next week, month, year ect and just doesnt go bad if stored in a reasonable manner.

Order your brake stuff for a 91 Spirit R/T or 92/93 Daytona R/T with 11" brakes, they almost can't screw it up.

BTW, the calipers are cheap. Those calipers should fit a Neon also.

Getting the wrong parts is a fact of life for TII/TIII/TIV cars.

Always double check on your end!

I always do! Just not this one time.... I assumed they were the same as a quick glance they looked identical... just the rotor spacing is different.

Re: NAPA sold me the wrong rear calipers... years ago!

NAPA will take them back (at least the guy at the counter I dealt with in the past said so) But, he doesn't know they are painted with the caliper black (I masked everything nicely) Before I plop them into our sonic washer and have the paint hopefully peel/disolve away, does anyone need a set of new solid rear rotor calipers?

Looking through the computer at NAPA tonight, he tells me nobody in the State or surrounding areas has any, and the manufacturer has like one coming from the factory in a week, and that would be freight.

I might just sell these and cut my losses and get the vented rear disc calipers..

Can you confirm that these are Eclipse calipers and that hes not trying to sell you the previous brand? Because im sure you have the green box caliper am I correct?

Being painted black is a good thing. The eclipse calipers are powdercoated black from the factory so I bet he wouldnt even know unless hes been there for a while.

    also... green box caliper?

The ones I have are (were ;-) silver and I forget the rebuilder. They look identical to the originals off my '90 vnt Shadow which had solid discs.

Re: NAPA sold me the wrong rear calipers... years ago!

Eclipse is the brand on the box, they start with the prefix SE at the beginning of the part number.

The old green box calipers were 242-xxxx Part numbers.

LMK, but it sounds like you have the 242 calipers

Also, bracketed eclipse calipers end with an A. So it would be like SExxxxA, non bracket ones do not have the A. If hes looking for an non bracket caliper its unlikely to find one. Just double check him, not saying hes wrong but it might save you some time.

Yes, 242-3076 and 242-3077 according to my receipt.

I don't have the boxes anymore because I turned them in with the cores... core charge was $45 each!

Just not sure where you're going with this... unless ya need/want them?

No.... don't take my last post the wrong way. I was just wondering what your thoughts were.

So... what is the "bracket" and "non bracket" I have absolutely no clue. Thought a rear caliper for an '89 Shelby Daytona vented disc setup were all the same?

Why not just replace the piston and seals on your current calipers?
