Rob that mod would not be under "cooling systems", it would be under "cylinder heads" and I am pretty sure it says External modifications prohibited. Years ago friends of mine ran an E/SA camaro and had oil spray bars inside their lifter valley for better oil lube and cooling, they got DQ'd that race and had to take it out.
Here you go Rob.

nice find Cordes, bookmarked for future reference
Thanks, Cordes...
Was going to go racing this weekend. But, my father-in-law is in the hospital with heart trouble. Looks like he'll be getting a pacemaker next week.
So, instead of racing, I decided to go ahead and start building a SMEC-to-SBEC harness adapter. With this, I should be able to run my car on a SMEC, SBEC, or SBECII. I still need to add 1 wire to the harness so that the SBECII stops throwing codes at me (the SBECII has 2 ASD sense wires, and I'm currently missing 1 of them).
I lined up the 60-way pinouts next to each other so I could see where the wires needed to go. I also already have a salvage female 60-way from an old SBEC. I'm not really sure how I'm going to hold all this together in the car. The female 60-way seems a bit fragile. The pins are meant to be board mounted, not have wires attached to them. I think I need to find a box to somehow house the 60-way connectors and wires...
Probably done for the year now. So, I'll work on this and the water system starting soon...
Is that one of the Jeep cases for that board?
Thanks. That's what I'm thinking of for the Omni.
are they the same case design for SMEC's as well as the sBEC?

I've been trying to run my car on both the SBEC and SBECII. It actually runs on both, but the SBECII gives me errors for the ASD, Baro Sol, and Alternator field. I believe they are all related to the fact that the ASD sense wire is moved from the SBEC to SBECII.
My thinking was that all I needed to do was add a 2nd ASD pin. Since the SBECII runs with the ASD wire in the 'regular' ASD spot. So, I put the 2nd ASD pin/wire in and the car started and ran just fine on the SBEC. Tonight, I put the SBECII in, and it primes the fuel pump, but now it has a high pitch whine coming from somewhere. Not even sure where it was coming from. But it was loud enough that I just turned it off and pulled the SBECII so as to not let the smoke out of anything.
I'm double checking the wiring and pinouts, but assuming that is OK, what else could be going on?

Uh-oh. What did I get myself into...
Turns out it was the fuel pump making this noise. Looking closely at the engine wiring diagrams, I think the issue is that the SBECII has essentially 2 ASD's - 1 for the alternator, coil and injectors and 1 for the fuel pump and O2 heater. The SBEC has only 1 ASD, and the alternator field is powered from the ignition switch circuit. So, I guess the fuel pump is somehow getting power thru the SBECII. Not sure how it does that, but it doesn't seem like a good idea.
I've used up all the relays in the PDC, so I'm not sure how I'll go forward with running the SBECII. Need to put some more thought into it...
Is there any way to run 2 pdc right beside each other or what have you?

What about a separate relay outside of the pdc. Like how we do our headlights?

That is interesting. There would have to be some pretty good hardware on the board to run the pump if it does indeed come from there. I can't imagine that they would do it that way, but who knows?
