    mpgMike ported G-Head

    Date: 30th July 2011

    Full Name: Mike Holler
    City, State, Zip: Sussex, NJ
    Contact: mpgchris@yahoo.com
    Price: $700 + shipping

    Description:
Offered for sale is an mpgmike ported G-Head. I’m rebuilding an engine for my ’85 Daytona Turbo-Z and this is the head that was on the engine. It was in such good shape I couldn’t resist working it over. I’m using a swirl port head for the engine going in the Daytona. I’m not getting back into head porting, this is just a one-off. Since I’m not regularly porting heads, my flow bench is in storage. I cannot guarantee flow numbers, but I can guarantee you’ll love it. I will stand by my work, and my reputation is clean.

    Details:
    - 57.5 cc chambers (+/- 0.3)
    - Biased intake and exhaust ports, opened for substantial increase in flow
    - Stock intake and exhaust valves
    - Single angle seats
    - Powre Lynz on the intake ports with progressive pitch (20, 16, 12)
    - Powre Ringz on the intake valves to carry the Powre Lynz principle a bit further
    - In-cylinder catalysts (proprietary secret I will share with the buyer)
    - Head milled for straightness
    - Guides have been replaced as needed
    - Single valve springs with dampers, pressures unknown (definitely aftermarket pieces)
    - Radiusing of the combustion chambers, with exhaust area ground out to the cylinder bore
    - Substantial flow work around the guides
    - Polished CTS, coolant sender, and coolant fitting, and stainless painted lower coolant fitting
    - New valve stem seals
    - Includes exhaust studs

The cam journals are the nicest I’ve ever seen on a used 2.2 head, which means it was maintained. Modifications are performed as per “Head Porting for Performance & Economy” (FuelEconomyTips.biz). If for any reason you are not satisfied, I will make it right. The $700 price is somewhat low for what you’re getting, in my opinion. Does not come with camshaft, but I can include lash adjusters and roller rockers (good used pieces) at no additional cost.

    A couple more pics.

This will probably be the last G-Head I port.

As a side note, Roush Performance certified 42 MPG on that X-Prize car I was working on. That's a 40% increase over stock. I plan on another trip to see how much better we can do using what we learned on the first trip.

Thanks. I'll be heading back up in about a month to see if we can't do better. BTW, the Sonata went from 33 to 51 mpg with just the ported head, and had way more power.

Here is the car the head came off of, and when this one is sold, I get to pick up the one I'm using from the machine shop.

similar mods have been reckoned equivalent to 15% bigger valves...

    It's very similar to this....

Where you think of the valve as a disk cut out of a golf ball...

Why not dimple instead? Because a golf ball may be in any orientation, so dimples work better, ridges or rings should be better when the orientation is constant.

BTW if you're not getting it, it's the air that goes round that counts.

Hey, thanks RW. I'm going to sweeten the deal a bit by adding a 1-piece powder coated valve cover. It is the typical wrinkle finish black with the scuffed fins & letters, but with a clear coat over the bare aluminum.

Frankly, lots of folks prefer the G over the Swirl. I'm with you, though, I like what I'm able to do with the swirl heads. Still, I've found ways to incorporating pretty cool stuff into the G-head to make it even better.

That valve cover sounds like a REALLY nice freebie. I've been fighting VHT wrinkle black to get a good wrinkle finish, and in 3 tries, it still hasnt worked.

Temperature and the 20 minutes between coats makes a critical difference. Not sure what isn't working, but I've used that product in the past with good results. However, I did go through a learning curve.

    Re: mpgMike ported G-Head

Temperature and getting an even finish have been my problem. The first two times i didnt have the temp right, the last time i had temps in the ballpark but still ended up with uneven wrinkle. I think if i had 5 more cans i could get it perfect but so far it's been a real tease, coming out perfect in some spots and crappy in others. Anyway, I would expect that your valve cover probably looks better than 90% of the wrinkle painted ones on the planet.

I'm going to sweeten the deal one more time before wrapping the head in plastic and putting it on the "I might need it someday" shelf. In addition to the incredible cylinder head offered that will dramatically boost torque, part throttle response, WOT/boost performance, and fuel economy; and in addition to the powder coated valve cover, I'm tossing in a brand new Wastegatre electronic 2-setting boost controller as part of the deal (http://www.wastegatre.com/). In my opinion, you are getting well over $1000 worth of product for $700. I guess when the battery is dead, quit trying to crank it over. If noone is interested, I'll just keep it.

Its not that nobody is interested its just most of us don't have that kind of money laying around. Trust me I wish I did.

    Re: mpgMike ported G-Head

A question was brought up I thought I'd share. Would I also do an intake manifold and exhaust manifold for this package? First, no exhaust manifolds. It takes me 2 full days to port and prep one, and there are inexpensive versions out there as well as some headers. As for the intake, I'll port a 1-piece and powder coat it to match the valve cover for another $100, or port and powder coat YOUR 2-piece for the same price.

Just adding to this, ive seen heads go for more than this and didnt have a name anyone knew on them.

Sometimes if you let a battery sit, they charge up just that much that you needed.

BTW mike, tried pm-ing you earlier today on another matter, your box was full..... so if your line went suddenly slack, that's why.
