So, i just got back from the machine shop....what a joke....the machinst came out..he had a piss pour attiude towards me....he pointed the crack out....then i asked if any where else the pressure test showed a leak?...he then admited that he didn't pressure test it...he saw the crack inbetween the vavles and thought a pressure test will not be needed...WTF...i asked him if he took out the valves to see the extent of the crack....with an attuide he said no...ok so i held my breath and just said ok....then comes the funny part...they tried to charge me 26 bucks for looking at the head...haha! funny guys eh? need less to say i argued with them and didn't get charged anything...

[/COLOR]Ok, heres a pic of the crack that they said makes the head junk.
BTW...tyler took some kind of punch and taped on the cracks on all four cylinders...so i received the head like this new from him.

so you are taking the head some where else to get re presure tested? with the note to be presure tested
Yea, i actually found a guy thats done a few hundred of these heads...and he said he knows just about everyones he's done has those cracks between the valve...i am going to take the valves out and see if maybe one of my guides is bad before taking it in for a pressure test...looking inside the exhaust port of #4 the guide seems to be sitting lower then all the rest...we'll see.
Tom
Some nerve I say.
yea, just about every turbo head has those cracks. I've never seen one cause that issue though.
Well, i finally found a good machine shop...they deal with alot of performance motors, they basicly do everything there....he finally got around to pressure test it, he said theres an internal crack between cylinders 2 and 3...he said he could tear it down further to locate the crack,,and he could try pinning it....but he said it usally never works for long...so with thinking that it would cost probably double if not more to play a 50/50 chance of getting it to seal i'd just get a new used head.
I'd like to mildly port the head..clean it up and what not...anyone know any good articles on porting our head...i am going to search head porting on this forum, but just curious if anyone knew a good site to work from.
Tom
looking at the post about head porting...i think i might leave it alone..maybe i will just gasket match it....just to make sure the air isn't gonig straight into a wall....
Instead of 'gasket match' you could 'manifold match' so there is a smooth transition there fo ryour specific parts... ya know, if the gasket is bigger than your manifolds...

Bummer its cracked, that's the problem with these engines, the heads are getting old and prone to cracking,
That first machine shop is a joke, I've bought TM cars due to owners being told their heads are cracked between the valves,

I'd just glob some house paint on the manifold and "print" it on the head... whatever's easy to take off and is just a touch thick and sticky when you put it on...

Tom, yer shop at work got any "transfer die" ? same theory as RW222's house paint, but the stuff was made for it. Either would work, just want to line them up...

Yea, my shop doesn't have any...is this a autoparts store things only or does mcmaster carr carry it...i searched from the transfer die, but couldn't come up with any on mcmaster....maybe a different name?
Tom
I know we wouldnt stock it, so its pretty unlikely you'd find it at an auto store.
More of a machinist thing... uised for making dies (injecton molds, etc. where you need to confirm that oen side matches to the other. Usually I'd say if McRaceMasterCarr doesn't sell it, you don;t need it, but this is prolly more specific to machining than they get into. Maybe J&L Tool? Or a mold/die tooling company? I canot rememebr who makes the stuff, whether its is Dykem or one of their competitors... simiklar stuff as that but it doesnt dry so fast like the Dykem is designed to.

mcmaster carr has "Layout Fluids" and "Staining Fluids" is this the same thing?
Dont buy the can with brush applicator, get a spray can of it, the brush works but it dries fast and will thick and thin coat. Layout fluid, yes.
