oil restrictor in turbo feed line needed?

Chris,

I purchased a used (but recent) T3 S60 sand the brass filter had been removed. Is there a special fitting to replace this? It doesn't look like 1/8 NPT I'm used to seeing in there.

It should be 1/8 npt, haven't seen anything else except on the Garrett DBB and Holset turbo's.

Turbonetics sells the replacement filters for $20 or so. You could also check out McMaster Carr for adapter fittings. Keep in mind the added oil supply line height may conflict with the wastegate actuator function.

I didn't run into that issue on my S50 with that fitting installed, but I did have to add some height to the water return.

That's a Ball bearing turbo your showing, on a journal turbo, so far, I've never seen a restricted passage.

Thats just the picture I found. The passage might be bigger but its still smaller than the -4 line.

Just found the photo I was searching for.

Attached is a dry oil cooled bearing housing showing the internal oil restrictions. No additional restrictions should be added prior to the turbo. I apologize for the rust. We had this on display a couple of times in Carlisle.

Thats the picture I was looking for, you can see how running a restrictor before that turbo would hurt the thrust bearing a lot.
