    90 3.0/543 Dynasty

My cousin bought this car when i was ~16. Many good times of being hooligans were had in it. Some of the most hilarious tickets i've heard of were earned in it. He drove it for about 3-4 yrs. Then it sat.

...For ~7 years. I picked it up last summer. I traded him for a head unit, amp, subs, and installation on his Cutlass. I wasnt doing anything with those things..works for me.

Over the last couple months i got it road-ready and street legal, blah blah.

I lowered it, put pumpers on it, built a catback for it with some ancient flowmaster and a modified turbo caravan tip, replaced the cat with a glasspack, wired in a radar detector. Buncha odds and ends.

    Then it started sitting again..

So after a while i decided that since i have 2 543 setups for my 3.0 van swap i should just put one of them in the dynasty so it'd be more fun to drive and more unique.

Maybe VERY unique if it is, as im guessing, the ONLY 5spd swapped Dynasty out there. Anyone know of any others?

I put the pedals in it today and trimmed a shifter boot to fit the console i picked up. The console is actually an auto-trans floor-shifter console from an 86 caravan. It's VERY similar to the 5-spd minivan shifter consoles, and for $5 it fits over the 5spd shifter pretty damn good.

As i've mentioned many times before, i just swap the pedal shafts. I have never ever had to mess with the pedal bracket itself.

The console's getting painted flat black for easiness/laziness reasons. The shifter and console are just sitting there mocked up, not bolted in yet.

The trans is a large-spline 3.77fd 543. Stock disc and PP for now, no grand power plans here. The car also has a hot-air intake, 52mm tb, and removed plenum divider that i put on it years and years ago when it wasnt mine. It ran 16.7 bone stock and 16.5 with just the 52mm tb. I guess it might run a low 16 on a good day right now. Should run 15.5 or a little under with just the 5spd swap. It'll be more fun to drive and get better gas mileage.

Glad that it doesn't look too good. I may never install a console. Uber ghetto forever. Wonder how it will look when flat black?

guessing this could be the first 5speed dynasty.

I always just manually mess with it to adjust the clutch pedal rather than pulling up on it like in a factory car. Ive never had a problem.

Brent, bare shifter is ok if you dont have carpet but i really hate having to look at holes in the carpet and im not pulling this carpet out, so im putting a console over the holes. Thats the main reasoning.

Im starting to think about that more and more.. i just dont want the color to be 'off'. Black goes with everything. But the right burgundy color would still be better..

    That's pretty cool!

    That my old 543 Adam?

Nice to see the Dynasty back in action again. I'll never forget those Autocross pictures!

    Re: 90 3.0/543 Dynasty

Hey Pete, yes it is your old one! Thanks again!

I have a 3.50FD small-spline 543 for the van project. It's probably not in as good of shape but i decided i wanted the lowest cruise rpm possible for that one.

Also.. this is not the same dynasty i used to autocross. That one is a 93 3.3 with a lot more done to it.. here's a pic of me autocrossing that one when it was stock, circa '03:

I actually bought that dynasty like a yr after my cousin bought the red one because i liked the red one so much. So we're talking ~11yrs of dynasty-loving history for me, between these 2 cars..
Also, here's another pic of the 90 3.0 car from a few months back when it had those same wheels i bought from a jyard in 02 on it:

---------- Post added at 10:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 PM ----------

And here's how i modified a stock exhaust tip off an 89 turbo caravan to fit this car and look good.

    Re: 90 3.0/543 Dynasty

Heheh. Somebody put the imperial front end on a dynasty. Imho it was/is HORRRRIIIIBBBLLLLLEEEEEEE. And the body lines on the panels dont really match up.

    But on a related note, i wish i had a 90-93 imperial!

There is some thought of turboing this car but frankly the bottom line is i wont do it before i turbo the other one (which already has most of the parts sitting around, including a big turbo), so it might never get done. There's also some thought of swapping the dohc 6g72 ive got into it. This is all far down the road, considering the rate that i get things done at.

Awww, I think I like that late 5th Avenue front better, more rounded looking, also looks like the lower belt line would match up at least. The thing I can't stand about either the Imperial or 5th though is those 'orrible refugee from the 70s vinyl roofs and opera windows.... otherwise I'd be 100% happy with them as is... apart from some weight might go, bit porky.

No console in my Spirit. Had no interest to install one. The location that I put the shifter sorta makes it impossible anyways. I like it higher up and closer to the steering wheel and my hand, not on the floor and far away. The way I prioritize things, a console is too far down on the list to ever get done since Adam and my job stole all my get r dun Spirit.

    Re: 90 3.0/543 Dynasty

I got my clutch cable put in and started mounting the shifter tonight. At first i thought the factory dimple for the clutch cable hole wasnt there, but then i looked again and it was.

took down my exhaust heat shield, cut the necessary hole through carpeting, drilled the mounting holes, etc, but it was 10pm and i didnt want to dig around for mounting hardware so i guess ill get back to it on the weekend.

Thats why I like having all my hardware organized in drawers. Yay walmart mini plastic drawers. Saves me so much time and hassle.
When i originally cut holes for my Spirit, I had no idea where they were supposed to be and cut the wrong thing....and then I cut those same holes in the Duster because for some reason I like it there. I had no idea I was wrong until I got my Duster!
