I'm a bit on the fence on this. On the one hand I have a nice 0-miles rebuilt A568 that I would love to have the Quaife in, but on the other hand I'm not sure if this install is beyond my ability. I searched and couldn't find much on a how-to on the interweb. Is the procedure covered in the FSM?

I called a transmission shop and asked what they wanted for the install with me just bringing the A568 and parts to them and he quoted me about $600 just for labor. Also, I assume the passenger side axle (or I-shaft) will still have to be trimmed ~1/4"?

The service manual is pretty good. you need a press, dial indicator and some other things to do it though.

Keep calling different transmission ship. Takes maybe 2 hours to do the labor.

To set it up properly the pinion shaft has to come out so when measuring the preload and turning torque the gear meshing does not give you a false reading. All the time to disassemble, clean all the old sealer off everything, pressing everything and going through the setup procedure to dial it in. Thats not 2 hours of labor unless your cutting corners like not pulling the pinion shaft so you can do it right.

Exactly. It's a lot easier to do with a 525/520/523 because you can leave the ring gear off and shim the diff with the intermediate shaft still in there. Not possible with the 555/568.

Well, this latest news from our supplier may just kick you over that fence Jeremy. Apparently the US dollar has taken a hard hit and on Sept 15th pricing was adjusted to reflect current exchange values. Our group buy pricing was increased by $150. After several phone calls back and forth with the manufacturer they concluded that had the pricing adjustment been internal they would have honored the quoted price but because it was out of their control they would not. I will be sending an email out to all GB participants to see if they would be willing to go $150. higher.

    Sorry,

Thanks all for the info. I do have a dial indicator and access to a press, but I don't think I currently have the ability nor trust anyone locally to do it right the first time. Bummer on the price going up too. Looks like I'll have to pass this time.

Do not like the new price of 1250, but it is a major piece that is needed. Still in.

I will check with our supplier to see if recent exchange rates will affect our pricing.

Thanks for pointing that out for us,

We spoke with our rep about 1 month ago. They informed us that there have been no price adjustments even though the exchange rate has changed since their price increase. We will be sitting down with them is a couple of weeks and will address the issue once again.
