you really dont think the konis and eibach's are that good? i have them in my acclaim and it seems almost as good as some of the new cars? i do believe they are the higher rate springs tho. i belive u used to be able to get two different part numbers? btw i ordered one of those sleeve kits for my other acclaim and it sat on the strut tops like wtf.

Going both front and back will set you back bunch. Esp if you go with QA1 shocks with adjustable perches on the rear (best option right now). You can either drop the money and cry yourself to sleep until you make it back or buy the fronts and get "real" about doing the rears later. There are some things you could do that would cost a little less to stiffen the rear in the mean time. One being adding a rear swaybar.

there is always the bilstein option, 3000gt front strut inserts, in stock housings, and then coilover sleeve, the valving for the insert limits you to ~250#/inch coils on them, and the rear could be either buy the adjustable perches (which are real nice) or fab your own setup and use ~200-250#/inch coils in the rear with the hd ford ranger bilsteins. the majority of issues guys have with bilsteins is wrong spring rate. but i dont know how much, if at all cheaper it would be to go that route vs the b.c. coilover setup.

im pretty set on the SRT4 coilovers with the turbododge top parts, not worried about them costing more.. just worried about spending money in general. To many things to buy and too little money. I wouldnt have bought the cams i paid for already if i gave it one more day of thinking.. i jumped on it because i knew i wouldnt do it the next day

not that they are bad.. just not worth the cost of what you have to pay for used Konis.. I have seen on more than one occasion a pair of Fronts going for $400 and needing a rebuild.

REALLY? The shadow i drove that had them was nice but it was not stiff enough to my liking. This is not my DD anymore, if i put money into coils, they are going to rattle my teeth out.

well. i got my koni's from simon for $450 for the set. the rears were good, but the fronts needed rebuilding, so i had proparts out of california rebuild them and do a shock dyno on them (~$450 usd total). i can honestly say they can be made to be uncomfortably stiff as far as damping otherwise the spring rate will determine the impression of stiffness. i got the stiffer eibach's on mine with one coil cut off all around, and i like the handling a lot, just a hint of lift-off oversteer, and nice and neutral under power. the thing to keep in mind is that suspension feel is almost always subjective, whats too soft for you, may be too hard for me for instance. also too stiff of a spring rate can reduce your cars overall grip on the road, most super high spring rates are used for track days, not ripping along most bumpy highways and sideroads. but what i can say is that with used continental procontacts (225/45r17) and the said suspension with stock es/iroc rt swaybar, and trailing arm it'll hang with a friends c63 in the twisties all day.

as far as spring rate goes, im not sure what i want. I know I want alot more than i have now lol. CSX springs are garbage.

I was thining somewhere on the siffer side, he offers a couple choices for stiffness.

448# front, 336# rear? thats middle of the road of what he offers.

i dunno, my eibachs are avertised as 300#/inch front primary rate, and 330#/inch rear primary rate. rally guys with similar weight and weight distribution, use ~220-250#/inch front and 175-200#/inch rear. stock csx is ? 145 ish front and 120 ish rear? turbo shad has a great writeup on his coil spring rate in his thread two or three pages in if i remember correctly, and other than a slightly heavier front end i'd bet that would be a good example of what you might like. keep in mind that the rear spring rate on our cars is skewed because of the leverage the wheel has over the coil, so i would think that keeping the rear coils within 50# of the front coils would be a good start, with coils that are equal in rate or stiffer in back may induce some oversteer, maybe not when you want it to.

correct. Im pretty familiar with how it all works.. just havnt been able to experience what a certain spring rate feels like vs. a stock spring.

i hate the csx springs, unless i got ripped off or something because they are not that great... not that i expected them to be 2 years ago when i bought them but its time for change.

ill take a look in DJs thread.

i dont think you got ripped off, i do think that the shelbys and the other "performance oriented" models used a coil spring rate that was stiff enough to provide good handling without having to use much more expensive and stiffer struts and shocks to cope with a higher spring rate. newer cars can use stiffer rates nowadays but now the internal components of shocks are built with better materials that are more durable under extreme use, and as such can be valved stiffer and still live the appropriate lifespan of an oem or aftermarket part. i bet somewhere around 300-400 front spring rate and a 275-350 rear spring rate would get you where you want to be.

Used?!? New replacement cartridge Konis for the SRT4 are available for well under $400 for a pair.

I have seen the drop in koni struts go for $400 used in bad condition.. im just ranting on how TD people with do anything to do it the easy way and use what everything thinks is the best thing in town. Konis are good, but its all we have had in the past. Its kind of comical to me.

Im not talking about the inserts.

For rebuilder cores you miiight get lucky at $200, depending on how broke or desperate to get rid of them someone is.

but then you still need to rebuild them and like i posted the going rate is $450 usd approx, so at the cheapest that puts you over $600, so using koni cut-a-strut's like for a srt-4 or subaru impreza would be cheaper. or buy a coilover already done.

naw i want the BC kit, its kick ---. Waiting on the sale of one of my high end paintball guns. That will litterly be enough to buy the coil overs, stupid expensive for a gun haha. Im thinking of it as a trade rather than dropping a grand on some suspention parts.

What have you decided for the rear setup?

Cut half the coils then put in 2 solid rubber "spring helpers" each side...

edit: BTW if you ever want to LeMons, GRM 20xx or Chumpcar something which has a soggy rear and there's absolutely no options in swaps, then you could do worse than this. Rubber has a hella high spring rate for size and is self damping, meaning you don't need to upgrade the shock to control it. Don't worry about the zipties, really they're just to stop it slipping out of place on rebounds.

. I think i will go with 7k up front and in the rear. I talked to frank and he said he can do that for me. He also said anything over 8k is really stiff.. probably to stiff (obviously) so 7k should work well me thinks. Itl be stiff still but thats what im going for
