Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

it normally would have done much better though

I think my turbo is actually on its way out. its been abused and it was a cheep turbo at best so im not to shocked. It has some side to side, up down, in and out play but it spins good and does not smack the housing. I dont think it had near this much play originally though.

I looked over the entire car and didnt find anything obvious as far as boost leaks go. idle is still good so the leak would have to be pre throttle body if there even is a leak. spool is slowww.

I want to get a holset now.

    plan

    - holset (similar to brents?)
    - port front exhaust manifold, if possible
    - port lower intake
    - 58mm throttle body with plenum ported to match.
    - 3inch downpipe (currently 2.5inch)

this setup will surely max the injectors. My only worry is the mild cam that i still havnt replaced. i kind of like how well behaved the car is so who knows what will happen as far as a cam goes.

I like the idea of going just as fast on less boost. Walking people on 8psi is really cool and holsets love big boost so once even bigger injectors go in ill crank it up BUTTT im still getting way ahaid of my self with this car.

need to still drive it as long as i can before i get my second car. then i can work my way into getting this thing figured out.

at this point it seems like fwd w/ slicks will be easier to go fast quickly than awd will.

I dunno, i've had bad experience with awd. You need a BULLETPROOF drivetrain to handle any abuse. It seems like something always breaks, axles, t-case, output shaft, driveshaft, clutch, etc. I'd rather drive a slower car than fixing a faster one all the time.

I love being able to light up the tires while sliding around corners with my shadow. I don't like swapping smoked clutches and grenaded t-cases on my stealth.

Brents is a HE351 i believe. They are all over ebay but they are one of the more sought after holsets from what i've seen. I don't know what your budget WILL be but maybe save and get a PTE or even a COMP. Both companies make great turbos.

His thread says he341, from my limited turbo research, they came on 94-98 ish cummins. Similar to an hx-35 and Wch-1. I've seen them on Craigslist for ~$400 with 100k on em.

Wait, maybe I'm confused, I thought you tore up a rod and piston the other night?

Those were some pretty decent runs by the sound of it. I'm sure many were shocked a Duster could move like yours.

Your vids make me wanna get out on the street ASAP in the Shelby Z!

I've got an HE341 locally if you want to use it for mockup, I still have not opened it up to see if it has any damage or will work.

It came off of a working truck (They came on 03-04 CTD Ram's)

cant afford a turbo right now, but i am working and saving

that piston and rod is from a mini van motor that was going to go into my buddies tona. we were shocked when we opened it up! the girdle in that motor was also torn apart.

Yes the runs where good runs but from what i know about the M3, they are low 14 second maybeeee high 13 second cars. Ive pulled hard on mid 13 second cars in the past. The car has deff. slowed down.

just ordered my aem wideband. I have been having awesome luck with them unlike my prosport. Modernperformance.com has them for a good price and they are awesome to work with!

edit: ooo and anything you see on facebook might be a lie :P IF i post on facebook that i grenaded all my rods, you will see it posted here first. sometimes i like to screw with people. IF its not posted here, it didnt happen.

Haha, I got ya, I enjoy posting insane things myself occasionally to freak someone out.

Just glad ya didn't nuke your motor, that would have definitely been a bummer with all the work you've done.

    Alright, shock is over.

    Lol

So "Got it bandaided back together, might be putting down 200HP now, fed up of the thing, anyone wanna run for pinks?" translates as "Fully built on 20 PSI, run me if any of you suckers wanna lose your car"

prosport wideband out, aem wideband installed. i ddint ground it to the same ground as MS so the MS thinks im .5:1 afr more lean than i really am. not a problem right now, i just wanted to get it working first. the ground fix will take a total of 3min to correct.

my tune was good for around town driving up to 45mph. i think when i take the highway to work tonight i will find that its to rich at 70mph.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

huh? the aem wideband works flawlessly. I wired the power to my radio power and the ground to my radeo ground. the ground should have been ran into the engine bay to the same spot that my megasquirt is grounded. IF you dont do this, the megasquirt will think your a littler richer or leaner.

in my case, MS thinks im a little leaner than i really am. I just need to take the 3min and extend my widebands ground into the engine bay. not a big deal. it works flawlessly.

the AEM gauge also outputs a 0-5v signal that is ran to megasquirts "wideband input" wire. I then told megasquirt that its a 10:1 - 20:1 0-5v curve for the wideband. done.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

found a BIG boost leak. nice long crack in one of my IC pipes! Its a plastic piece that i used in a pinch a while ago and it worked well so i forgot about it.. until now

ill probebly replace it with the same thing consiering they shelf it at autozone. its lasted a long time so ill just do that again. If i go with a new turbo, ill have to redo some of the piping anyways, no need to hack one of my aluminum peices to fit.

---------- Post added at 04:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:02 PM ----------

also, anyone have any comments about this turbo?

    http://www.extremepsi.com/store/prod...at=1773&page=1

im thinking of getting the .68ar housing but im not sure if thats to big or to small. i forget what my current housing is on my cx turbo but i never bothered to care because its not there to stay. Im happy with the motor so i think its time to reward it with a new turbo when winter comes.

3inch downpipe, precision turbo, 58mm throttle body, bigger injectors (AGAIN!!!)

sounds like a good winter plan. should probably also be on the look out for a good 92+ a543. once i have a good DD i might just trear into the current trans and find out whats going on. our local yard does (or did?) have an a523, not sure on the year but that would be nice for parts.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

okay so update. Found a big boost leak. Fixed it! car now pulls HARD. WG pressure with a boost controler bottomed out is like 9psi ish. I turned it out two clicks and called it good for tonight. I did tune it earlier on 6clicks out, which ended up being like 13.7psi i guess. It was way to fast. Im out of injector at this point. i might be able to get another psi out of the the turbo without touching my fuel pressure but i wouldnt be able to keep it rich.

at 13.7psi, 11.7:1 afr (gas afr but running e85) got me a duty cycle of 95. SO, i already maxed my injectors. should have done more math before i bought them, o well. they are the reason im on e85, so i cant complain.

it was not to hot tonight, maybe 55* minimum. if i had to guess, it was closer to 60*. MY intake temp at 13.7psi toward redline was 78.8* F. CX racing fmic with 3inch pipes. GET SOME! could not be more satisfied.

anyways, back to tonight. boost leak fixed, car tuned for 13.7psi, i set it back to WG pressure and then gave it to clicks on the boost controller. idk what that ends up being, 6 clicks got me 13.7psi i guess. we can assume it was around 10-11psi.

I went to the weekly meetup with some friends. I saw a few cars leaving to go do some pulls so i decided to follow and just planned on watching.

    - some STI
    - mkIV Supra
    - mirage
    - camaro
    - turbo del sol

    maybe a couple other cars.

I got behind all of them to watch, i ended up next to the Camaro that barely beet me last week when i was boost leaking. Time for some fun!

they hit it and i gave it a second before i fully got on it and then the mitsubishi car blew up and smoke screened me! we ended up loosing the sti and supra. later i found out that the sti blew up a ringland LOLOLOL

so at this point it was just me, the camaro and my buddies wrx heading back to the meet spot. we got next to the chevy and got him to run. i started in 2nd at 45mph. we hit it and were dead even until i slammed third gear WOT shift and took off on him. there is no simple way of explaining how hard i pulled away from him. I redlined 3rd and slammed 4th gear but my shift linkage came apart!

i pulled off the highway and ended up finding my Camaro buddy, explained to him what had happened and then found that it was just the clip that holds the cable in place under the center console.

over all awsome night. glad i got to do work on the chevy guy after what happend last week. The car was toooo slow. Cant emagine what it would be like to run my buddies m3 again, lol. id walk away from him.

so the situation right now is that e85 and 13psi is as far as i can go with the car atm. bigger injectors it is i guess. I dont think that will happen until much later. its already fast and i mine as well go big with the injectors when i go bigger turbo and downpipe and well you know how that goes. next thing you know you need custom headers, clutch, pistons and its a never ending story

here is a video. starts with my first pull after fixing the leak. i tuned the car in a bit and then we hit the meet and did a pull. we forgot to record me pulling with the camaro on the return run but you do see the mirage explode and shoot oil all over the freakin highway right into my face!!

im just happier than hell that the car is back to pulling like it should. $150 goes hard.

That turbo isn't horrible in my opinion. The compressor wheel is a little small in my opinion considering what the 3.0 is capable of but that being said....that is a size sort of similar to what some of the SRT-4 guys use as an "upgrade" from a 50 trim but a little less than a 6262 or something similar. Go for the .63 a/r its not too big. You'd have to use a 4 bolt downpipe if you ordered it from there and stayed t3 hot side. Also you seem to have a good car scene where you're at....yeah here theres nothing. Problem with dudes around here is if there car is faster than yours then "you're an idiot ETC ETC fould language and names ETC" rather than "it's cool to know other people who are into cars and we can socialize and stuff ...yeah"

i have a line on an really fancy 6262 and might have a shot at an he341.. we will see.

yeah the car scene is alright. i drive 50min just to meet up with these guys, but its well worth it. Most of them are cool. You get your occasional ---- talkers.

we had pulled into a second parking lot (unlit, not very desirable) and a group of younger kids standing around some stock looking audi kinda giggled at the car. about 20min later a spot at Sonics opened up so i jumped in to go move it. I went out of my way to double back down the parking lot and open her up for a slit second. MY buddies said they heard those kids say, "holy ----, it has a turbo!" LOL

the car is stupid fun again, time for some new plugs. im curious to see where the gap is at on these ones.
