The A530 is not directly related to the 543. The 523/543/568 are essentially the same trans with slight differences like bell housing and in the 568 the slightly stronger gears. FWIW, I'm pretty sure the shift forks on the A543 are steel or Iron. They are quite heavy and strong, not like aluminum.

Popping out of gear would be a synchronizer/dog engagement issue. If the teeth are too worn down to stay meshed together, thats when you will have popping out of gear issues.

I was running Royal Purple 5W30 previously in my trans with great results, but I sure am going to try either the Mobil 1 High Mileage or Amsoil's new Z-ROD 10W30 in the trans. Its only 2 quarts anyways so a fluid switch is really easy

it seems like alot of folks have third gear issues when i research this issue. Back when i didnt realize that pushing the car into a low gear without double clutching was horrible for the trans (long term) i would usually go from 5th gear 35mph to 2nd WOT without rev matching. yet 2nd is still fine (feels fine) and third bites the dust. BUT like i said, one day i did a very hard shift, while spinning on some ice, and grinded 3rd really hard. i blame the factory crap bushing that was on the shifter.

and all other gears feel fine.

man, im almost positive its not the cables. the neon cable should have worked in all honesty. i would put the trans in third with the shifter and then disconnect the cable gently and try to manual put it into third even further, it wouldnt go further. the neon cable was actually putting it far enough into gear. i have adjust the the cable in many positions and it just dosnt fix the problem. some positions are worse than others but non of them are stellar.

brent, i was thinking about pulling the top part off to look around. hopefully i see something obvious.

figured out the pan is leaking. pulled the pan, cleaned it all up bla bla bla.

ill put it back on tonight with the correct sealant. i found that the orange stuff i have is good for heat and exhaust but not oil resistance. the black however is the opposite. i ll use the black this time.

i wish they sold rottela in 5quart jugs. i had to buy two 1gal jugs. o well. its cheep and good.

I think it comes in the the huge pails if you want 3 years supply at once..... not actually too terrible an idea, the new oil specs just keep getting worse for older engines....SZ will probably be instant death

yeah i know..... i dont know why they pulled the zinc out. if the car is functioning correctly, how does zinc in your oil ruin your cat?

Black should do ya by the way, anything hotter than it can stand, I don't reckon should have RTV on it at all, and everything I've personally used it to seal, has stayed sealed, I think I've got some decade plus jobs still sealed up on the van.

I think it's to do with how microscopic the catalytic layers are in new cats, which is to pack more area in, but because it's only a coupla molecules thick or something, the Zn can coat/deactivate it very easily, rather than just burn off and you're good with an older cat with thicker layers of the stuff.... plus they're probably cheaping out with it because of the whole 20 benjamins an ounce deally.

but the car shouldnt burn oil.. how does the oil get to the cat? or is it just that little tiny amount that gets passed the rings that they are worried about?

the orange rtv stuff is weird.. it came off and only stayed on the pan.. maybe .5% of it stayed stuck to the block. with he black stuff, that is not the case usually. add some blowby to the mix and bam.

Yah, there's theoretically a thin film of oil on the cylinder left every stroke.

Johney is soo cool. PMed him this morning about an order and he got back to me. Total was 169, he said make it 160 and we are good. cool guy

just sent the money. Ill be getting swaybar bushings, control arm bushings, and his clutch arm grommit (which is also polly )

got the wheel bearing on today and tomorrow i should be able to get some support brackets. Im in the prosses of pulling the control arms to do the ball joints, i should have that done in time for the bushings.

also fixed the gas leak. it was a loose injector.. the clip came undone and the injector was able to sink into the intake? not sure how it even did that.. ill have to watch them for a few weeks and see what happens.

when the car hits the road again i hope to have the following done

    - polly sway bar bushings
    - polly control arm bushings
    - 11inch 60mm front brake setup
    - replaced clutch arm grommit (mine is all old and falling appart)
    - new wheel bearing
    - new ball joints

oo and let me not forget the radiator cap and freeze plug i need to do.

Probably those GM injectors you have. The Ford injectors don't allow the use of OEM clips and are slightly too long so you just hold them into place with the fuel rail bolts They don't push through on the lower side though...

i think it was user error.. remember, i ran GM oem injectors for a while with multiple reinstalls.
