    stupid question, but here goes

checked my oil tonight. was between add and full. added some oil and now my reading has increased to full but the oil on the dipstick is thinner. dosnt cover the dipstick as "thick like". maybe the oil that was on the dipstick is used and appears to be dirtier and now that ive added fresh oil, that new oil is whats appearing on the stick and giving me a thinner reading?

i might be beating on the car tomorrow morning and id like to be sure i have enough oil. it hasnt been leaking alot. maybe a drop or two when i park it. somewhere from the front head and ill check it out more tomorrow as long as i dont get called into work.

Your catch can consuming any oil?

Thin oil just means hot oil to me. If you can read it, its there. I just make sure to test multiple times and make sure I get the same result every time.

^ this. Repeated checking is your friend. Does the car use oil really or just leak it? Do you end up with oil in the intake/intercooler piping ever?

no oil in the piping, exhaust, or anywhere scary. just a few drips from what i presume is the front bank

i havnt had too add oil sense i fixed the rear valve cover. i havnt seen oil come from the exhaust, and the box area is clean and when i check my IC it also is clean. its just a textbook leak

i did repeat tests and it was the same everytime. cool.

went to the cruise today. We hit a red light and lost our lead cars so the guys in front decided to pin it to win it.. the gtp next to me started winding up too so i mashed the throttle in 1st and did a WOT shift to second. scared the ---- out of everyone around me. souded like anti lag with wheel spin. did the same thing into third and continued to spin the tires. My car started getting some attention once we stopped lolol.

there was a stealth with a plate that said sohc TT but the exhaust sounded like a dohc. he was deff turbo. didnt get a chance to talk to that guy.

i think i rattled a motor mount loose or something so i came home early and i think ill go work somethings out on the car.

im interested in this sohc tt stealth. Not sure why someone would get that plate if it wasnt true, seems like a lot of effort.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

i have a feeling that my fuel filter does not like e85. anyone know an alternate fuel filter that will somewhat work in the stock location (no fancy AN fittings and such)

i know brent ran some truck filter. i also know that some people are fine running oem filter (camero guys for example, some are fine others swear they ahve to run a certain filter)

reason i saw this is i have filled up a few times when i get to half tank and such. i keep going leaner eventually.. something tells me its the fuel filter starting to get mad and choking flow. only reason im not certain of that is because the lean condition tends to be right after i fill up.. as if the gasoline in the tank is becoming less and less present. the first time i filled up i deff had gas in the tank (not a lot by any means). the second time i filled up, the table went lean.. this made sense because they say to not even bother tuning until you run one full tank through. the third time it kinda went lean and this morning (4th time) i needed to add fuel at idle but i was also autotuning so im not sure how much if any was added accross the rest of the table.

The problem with ethanol is it tends clean the fuel system and thus clog the fuel filter. So no matter what filter you run, you may have to change it regularly until it. Replacing the tank and lines would help the process. Rockauto has them for ~$80+shipping...

Also, keep in mind e85 is more corrosive than gasoline and you could start having problems with that too.

I've heard of guys running corvette filters. Brent either ran one of these or one from a silverado. Can only remember it was a GM product. He'll chime in soon im sure.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

the only filter I have been able to get in my local market in the last 5-7 years or so is the fram POS, and it's more of a POS than it ever was, made guess where now. "Back in the day" I used to get 18 mos to 2 years out of filters, NOW it's more like 8mos to a year....

Anyhoo, it's sort of untrue about e85 being corrosive per se, it's just that it forms weak acids very easily with water, and it sucks up water from the atmosphere very easily. You can add a few ounces of isopropyl alcohol to the tank every fill to try and make water combine with that instead of the ethanol. (Costco has 99% IPA in 4 packs at the pharmacy, or you can buy a gallon at a farm and feed store, used for rubbing down horses or something, or you can be all "OMG, I want stuff meant for cars" and pay 10x the price by buying it as ISOheet gas drier/antifreeze, which is 99% plus 1% "proprietary" ingredient that is non harmful and doesn't have to be mentioned on MSDS... can you guess??)

Other ways to stop that are to have the gas cap off as little as possible, buy a tankful at a time, not $5 worth once or twice a day.

Desktop is not hooked up so no access to those pictures at the moment. It was from autozone. Pretty sure it was from a 2500 silverado as someone else said. Plastic wrapped (not box).

I would go with Ed that Ethanol F's up your fuel system when its not clean. My Spirit ran out of gas 2 blocks from home on the way to the gas station that is 3 blocks away from home, couldn't push it either way. Went and grabbed some E85 that I had in a can and the fuel system instantly messed up. I had to pull the feed line to the rail and other places to dump out the gunk that was in the lines (even goo that went past the filter) Luckily my quick connects work. Was a bad day, missed an appointment that I was very early for at first. When I say messed up, I mean the fuel pump could no longer prime fuel to the rails.

I only chose that filter for my fuel cell setup, and that its inlet and outlet were the largest diameter (combined, many have one large and one small) at the store.

I ran OEM filter for gasoline and the only problem I had was I couldn't even run 13 pounds of boost with a clogged filter and with a fresh filter i could run 20+
On E85 I could run 16psi but not 20+ To me that is more about the pump and the high pressures used with Rising rate regulators then any filter (assuming the filter was clean and good). Trying to create 100+psi while pushing E85 to 20+ pounds of boost on a 3 liter motor is bound to suffer failure. If fuel pressure drops, motor drops. Megasquirt means you need a lot more injector then I did but its easier on your fuel pump.

New OEM style should be fine for now. Something wacky I do is expand the ends a bit on the quick connect sides. Expand too much and the quick connects don't fit on so you have to file down their diameter. I don't think you have those quicks anymore but I still LOVE them. I especially love them in the engine bay. Saves my knuckles and lets me do quick work.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

i might change the filter soon and hopefully it makes the car run rich (more flow, needs less pulsewidth).

this mpg is killing me but it is cheeperr. I typically only spend my tip money on gas and save my checks for paintball, parts, other things. or save lol.

right now im trying to get the car into a reliability state. thats the main reason for the e85. i figure it should give me more leeway than 93 would as far as tuning goes. Being in school and dropping work in the fall so i can focus on just school is going to suck for paying for car parts but hopefully i dont have to buy anything.

i bought a new wheel bearing for the front passenger side.. along with new ball joints. plan on making that new pasenger motor mount soon, filling the front mount and buying a pollybushings driver side mount along with polly swaybar bushings. my control arm bushings look alright. that list plus the tires on my list should be enough to get the car from A to B. im fine with things going wrong though, its an old car with a turbocharger.. i expect it but would be cool to not have to worry.

one big question i have for the MS guys is this, my front dp port (not the one for the tuning cable) is extra inputs and outputs. as my MS sits right now, can i plug in a cable to that and wire in table switching to a switch and wire in launch control/flat shifting?

just watched a few of your videos on Youtube, making me really want that turbo. "Just need to get the engine built this year, turbo next year" I keep telling myself, but your thread and video really make me want to do it now.

take your time. i spent a good year and a half reading and learning. its not uncommon for me to just sit at the computer and pick something random to read all night about. if only i could apply my self the same way toward school

but school dosnt have turbocharges and stand alone engine manegments.

i need to find a site to upload my race videos. i got spooked and took mine off youtube.
