    Ill check that later

I just checked rear cam seal, no signs of leaking.

Started thebmotor with timing cover andmount removed.... Reved it a bunch and cant fine the leak. If i go for a drive, i bet it leaks.......

I know its oil too, i was more than a quart low after last nights driving

Doesn't the oil pump bolt to the front of the engine? I would take a serious look there. I have seen a few 3.0's leak there.

I had my front main seal fold over funny & tear after a few miles but it was from me installing it and not looking how it seated. I don't know if sitting for a few minutes is enough to tell. I just found my cam seal was in crooked, its been like this on this distributor housing for maybe 4-5 years, oops. . Its obvious when its the front cam seal because it leaks on that small deck area of the block that you can see.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

my theory is that its coming from the rear head area and falling on the axle and getting thrown all over the pan and onto the splash gaurd. no proof behind this though

i had it running for a little and then reved the snot out of it and saw nothing.. even with the belt, tentioner and mount out of the way.

im using more oil than gas it seems...

our exhaust manifold bolts dont leak oil right? ill look into the oil pump bolt..

Did you use a dab of RTV on the corners of the rocker arm assembly when you bolted it down?

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

yes, i do the same with the valve covers.

i havnt looked at the front cam seal due to not knowing how to get in there...

the rear seal didnt show any signs of having oil getting to the outside of the head.. it was all clean.. any dirtyness was just gunk.. not oil.

the oil is seriously built up all over the bottem end but somehow avoids the timing belt and drive belt.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

im fairly happy when the turbo makes full boost.. fully boost by 4000rpms would be what i want. maybe after some afr tuning ill be able to make that happen? i know leaning out before boost build helps things spool along. 3inch intercooler piping might take a little longer to fill up too. little overkill

    from datalog in 4th.

    2600rpms 2psi
    3000rpms 4psi
    4100rpms 6psi
    4600rpms 8psi
5000rpms 155kpa (160 is 8psi right? seems like wastegate is playing around by this time)

after 5000rpms it seems to stay at 150kpa until i let off at 5200rpms

cant remember if the wastegate is ran to the compressor outlet or to the plenum.. that the map reading is obviously in the intake and the compressor might be seeing 8psi and then some of its leaked out before it hits the intake.

Time to do a pressure check on your piping instead of guessing. Easy to do. Oil leak, not so easy.

You didn't get a head gasket backwards or up side down, did you?

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

i dont think you could if you tried to. there are two studs on the deck and in order to get the gasket on, you have to have it flipped a certain way. and then you look at each stud.. iirc, one has two passages next to it and the other has one. so there is only one way the gaskets can go on

i mean i cant say 100% that i did it right because i cant just look at it. that would suck if i did... i dont think i did though

not possible to get it backwards and not be super super super super obvious that you did... When the gasket is hanging off the block an inch....

I didn't think it was, but I've never done gaskets on a 3.0, so...

retarding your timing in low boost will help spool the turbo faster.

Re: Sundance 6g72 "3.0 turbo build thread"(N/A DYNO SHEET pics inside)

i know lowering timing and dumping fuel (anti lag) helps spool a 5spd at launch due to no load unlike an auto

so i know my crank seal on the timing belt side probebly has seen better days.. i think im going to replace it and pray that it also happens to be my main problem with the oil leaking... i do tend to have oil on my pan (not alot or much to worry about) on a normal day when it isnt pissing oil all over.

what do i look to buy? i cant seem to find "front main seal" on autozones online site... i can find rear main...

just to be clear, front main seal is for the timing belt side right?

id like to get it local if possible... ill stop into the parts stores and see what they can offer me

cheepest is about $2 and most expensive is $15?

any reason to go with the "pricy" option? remember, im tight on a budget but i do like to keep the oil in the motor

Cheapest is probably just the O seal, the others are a set with timing cover seals probably.

With the set you get that lot...
    http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=128192

With just the crank seal you get the O at the bottom.

---------- Post added at 04:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:05 PM ----------

This are the description for the Timken crank seal...
    http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1119900

---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:08 PM ----------

Timken part is 223750 btw, but RockAuto have them on closeout, so it could be that they're not in regular channels right now unless it's old stock.

---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:10 PM ----------

Supposedly the Timken part fits all these applications, but that could just be how they made theirs, (Hope this is somewhat readable, too lazy to reformat)...
