Looks great man. Nice to see a beautiful restore on a car like that. The car looked a little tired before but that restore perked it right up. Makes me wanna get to work on my car right away!

NOS AM/CB Radio ready to be installed...the Mic is on the way
Had to do some minor tweaking to the wiring to make it work...
That might be one of the coolest factory pieces I have ever seen!

Finally a nice day to take the Omni out...
I had one in a 78 Power Wagon
Way cool ride. How hard was it to remove the dash, I've been putting that off on mine.
"NOS AM/CB Radio ready to be installed...the Mic is on the way"
Ahhh so that's where that NOS CD radio on ebay went....I almost decided to bid on it. LOL

Removing it was quite easy...putting it back in was the pain in the a**....something that old never wants to go back in the way it came out...plus I discovered the HVAC vacuum hose connector had completely disintegrated. So I had to repair that hot mess before finishing the job. But it all turned out nice
Hey everyone...it's been awhile...but I finally got around to showing this winters project --> finally cleaning the engine and engine bay. As most of you have seen, the car was coated with undercoating...but since it's now a show car and never sees rain, it was time to remove the Rusty Jones where not needed.
Just two products were used to remove the 30 year old undercoating...Turtle Wax Heavy Duty Bug and Tar remover...and a product called "Tarminator" as well as lots of time and elbow grease...this entire project lasted well over a month working every night...but now the car looks and runs better than ever...since I had the engine out I also replaced almost every part I could with an NOS Part...I'll list them after the pics...enjoy...
As you can see, when I first bought it...the Motor was a mess...all that black is Undercoating...
I did the easy areas...once I saw the unmolested original 1983 paint underneath, I knew it was worth going all in and cleaning it all...
Side View...
First I had to start removing EVERYTHING....
The Lean Burn Spark Control Computer and battery tray was first...
Followed by ground after ground and relay after relay...
Wider Shot...that stuff was really caked on...
Scrubbing Away...just used ordinary shop rags until they were to filthy to use...
A Couple days later the area was finally coming clean...
With that done...it was time to get serious...removed the wheels and axles...
The Axle's...They cleaned up very nicely...
After disconnecting the yards of vacuum hoses...taking a million pictures of everything and putting every nut and bolt in a labeled baggie...finally the little 2.2L was coming out...
The motor was filthy...especially for only having 26,000 miles on it...but it is 30 years old...
As you can see...lots of work lay ahead...
Another view of the hole...
Took 2 days to clean the front of the frame where the A/C Condenser and Radiator rest...
Next it was on to the vapor canister area...what a mess...
Another view of the tar coated mess...
Took a week, but it finally came clean...it took another entire night to clean the canister you see on the floor...
Scrubbing away...the firewall to my right was next...
That took another couple of night's but you see the result...that's not faded paint, just the angle...
Another Angle...the brake booster and cross member also were cleaned...
Also used the time to change every hose and part on the motor I could...
This included replacing the water pump and fuel pump with NOS ones...
Every part removed was cleaned to a like new shine....
The motor was also gunk'd and pressure washed with extremely hot water...it came out great...
Again, every part I could change it did with an NOS one...like replacing the voltage regulator and A/C idler switch...
Cleaned and replaced all the hoses in the vapor recovery system...
Also finally got around to adding the RARE passenger side chrome mirror....
The hood was also a mess...
But after an entire weekend of cleaning, it looks like new...
Had to buy a new air pump since the old one was frozen...
And since I bought the pump...might as well buy a new diverter valve...
Put Everything back together and THIS was the final result...simply amazing...also finally installed the new headlight bezels I had....
Parts added / replaced....
All Belts and hoses...including timing belt
Alternator
AC lines
Air Pump and Diverter Valve
Brake Booster
Master Cylinder
Voltage Regulator
Water Pump
Fuel Pump
Ball Joint Seals
Air Deflector Shield
All the Engine Mounts
Radiator Fan Relay
Starter Relay
Vacuum Solenoid
A/C Idler Switch
Spark Plug Wires
Headlight Bezels
Looks FANTASTIC. Wow.
Did you replace the sticker on top of the fan?
