question about a413 valve body mod

since i have my tranny out i figured id do the valve body mods while im at it. one thing though before i start on it. im modifying the tranny using http://users.mich.com/~stevien1/trans/valvebod.html for instructions on how to go about this. one thing they dont mention is the size or part number for the regulator spring. would anyone have that part #. if i did all the mods in the page cept the stronger sping would this cause any problems? none of these mods will hurt drivability will it? i want firmer shifts and none of that 2nd gear off the line crap like my horizon used to do.

    thanks
    kurt

well you just have to realize that when you raise the line pressure that you also raise the shift points. So you also have to mod the governor and this can be touchy. I recomend reading the FAQ by turbovanman about VB mods and the other tranny mod pages.

For street duty, the stock spring is fine, just crank it down. I got mine for a Gil Younger kit for a 727 trans.

To fix 2nd gear starts, use the Sonnax fix kit.

(Hey Big psi, thanks for showing me the Turbo-Mopar forum)

There's a vb modification you can do that will increase line pressure beyond the max turns with the stock reg spring, but without getting a new spring. You have to drill a "bleed" hole through the top half of the vb in one of the areas where oil feeds the regulator. I'll scan and post pics on where to drill.

This is the same mod I use on my manual valve bodies, only I have the feed hole calibrated and I drill the bleed hole to a specific size. Because on a stock vb the feed hole is slightly bigger, you'll have to drill a bigger feed hole. I'll post pics tomorrow.

If ANYONE needs a transmission or valve body built for their A413:
THIS IS THE PERSON TO SEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a valve body from Chad for my 1989 Ply Acclaim LE (T2 I/C) and with the stock mitsu at 14 psi it will bark the tires at WOT from 1st to 2nd gear. Chad is also the person I had build me the race tranny for S-T-R-E-T-C-H.

When all the other parts I need are here I will install the motor-tranny and give everyone and honest report on how the tranny works.

    Regards
    Chuck

It's killing me passing up on the trans brake for the Omni.
If I had that, I would definatly need big slicks to hook up.
    I'm still running drag radials.

I know you could build mad boost on the line, but would need some
    hefty rubber to get traction.

Absolutely. With street tires on my daily driver k-car, when I play with the tranny brake, I press the brake button, floor the gas and my converter stalls at around 4400. When I release the button, it slams the torque to the wheels, and the car doesn't even really move cuz the tires instantly spin, breaking traction and throwing smoke up.

With a good set of slicks and making them hook, I feel the tranny brake will set new 60 foot records. I want to bolt on the slicks and test the brake out at the track, but I don't want to chance breaking axles on my daily driver (yes my daily driver K-car has a tranny brake in it!). Once I get my Daytona running, it will be full tilt tranny brake at the track. I'm also waiting on feedback from a few others that have bought tranny brakes from me.

It really is nice when you can floor the car and stall the converter to full stall, and all the work you're doing is holding down a little button. The car doesn't move an inch an is rock solid. But a little quick flick of your thumb, and hold on. No more trying to slam the brake pedal through the floorboards and hope that it's enough brake pressure to keep you from creeping through the lights.
