housing is different, you would have to change the pump as well then use the correct belt. I think the housing fits the block.

I'm running a non c.b w.p. on a c.b. You have to use the housing, pump, pulley and serpentine belt all together. You will also have to notch the oil pan.

its easy to tell. the older style will have bosses inside the pump hole, where as the CB one wont. the CB one also necks down much tighter, where the NCB one has a bigger throat, good for porting!
are you sure the pan wasnt notched??? or if u had multi people help build the car theres a good chance someone did that part for you....i dont think its possible to get it on there without notching it...unless you somehow shimmed the lower bolt ?

yeah idk its been awhile since i actually looked at how its done....maybe a little meat could just be grinded off the water pump housing and make it work? im thinking it was just for clearance to remove the pan without have to take the pump off...did u ever have to pull the oil pan?? im guessing u had to take the pump off b4 the pan could come out
Yes, I do have to pull the water pump to remove the pan. As a matter of fact, within the last couple of years I replaced the pan with a new OEM oil pan.

ok, yeah i guess the notching is for us lazy guys that just want to slide the pan on and off with minimal parts to remove lol
Non-BS pan. Perhaps that's the difference.
