    New Ti retainer for the beehive spring

    A friend of mine was having Victory make some Ti retainers made for his 8valve project, so, I bought the other half of the set since Victory would only sell them in a set of 16. We weighed them today and compared them to a steel Comp retainer. These retainers are made for the Comp 995 spring in an 8valve head.

    Victory 5gr.

    you do know that comp cams already makes a titanium retainer for the 995 spring.s right? i was gonna buy a set but changed my mind when i saw they cost 280.00 bucks.

    230 for 16? Custom?

    I would love a set of custom retainers because I am not satisfied with what is available for the LSx motors. Maybe some +.050" locks too.

    the LS retainers fit perfectly. use the correct locks - sealed power VK-144R and they fit perfectly, tight with no slop or wiggle.

    They are just 7*. They checked out several MP hardened locks and they measured anywhere 4 1/2* to 8*. So I broke down and just went with the MP locks and 7* retainers. Victory said they would work better than a stock 8* retainer because the MP locks averaged less than 8*, so, the clamping force (*edit* interference fit) would be greater with 7* retainers.

    They were not a catalog item. If you breakdown the code on the retainer MPE (MPE motorsports), BEE (Beehive spring), 7 (7* retainer); I guess it is custom. A spring, in and ex valves, MP hardened locks, and Comp steel retainer were sent to them for evaluation. Retainer catalog here. Victory Valves makes some VERY nice high end valvetrain and engine parts. I wish I could afford 8 valves, locks, and wrist pins; that boxing match under the valve cover would be just shadow boxing.

    I will hold on to these guys
    3.0 is sorta inbetween when it comes to install height for valves vs clearance to the valve seal so we want to raise things up and maybe use real Lsx valve springs instead of 3.3L springs which don't give enough room for the lift we can run.

    I really see nothing wrong with buying something that is a better fit for the 8v.
