Thread: Headgaskets on back order?

    Headgaskets on back order?

I called the local dealer today, and the parts guy looked up the MP head gasket (he did say it ended in 005) and said it was on backorder with no ETA. Is that right, or did he just find the wrong part?

I tried giving him the part number to begin with, but he couldn't find it. I dunno if he just misheard what I said, or it wasn't pulling up.

006 is still available... In a pinch you can *carefully* drill the extra 3 holes

Besides drilling (I might consider it, but I'd rather not mess with it), what's the best alternative? Has it been replaced with something else? Do we just go for a Felpro and hope for the best?

supposedly the new felpro gasket is much improved over the old days of failpro gaskets. Federal Mogul makes the MP gaskets for chrysler already.

Usually, when this happens, they are gonna stop making them(at least for chrysler). Maybe Mopar is getting out of the 2.2/2.5 altogether?

    Re: Headgaskets on back order?

Wow, $50 for a Felpro? Almost the price of a Cometic...

The motor in my Shadow came from a 87 SL and had an old late 90's vintage blue stripe Felpro head gasket on it... came that way in teh SL from a previosu owner an di never swapped it out till it blew. I put over a hundred low 13 second runs on that gasket before it finally blew. I'm guessing the guy who put it on made sure everything was cleaned well and used fresh bolts too, prep makes a huge difference... well, kinda, We replaced that gasket with a 006 in a hotel parking lot at teh Mopar Nats... slip-n-slide, didnt disconnect teh oil return from teh turbo so couldn't even get teh head high enough to get my chubby hands and adirty rag in to wipe the deck completely, lol... 13.01 @ 105 rigth off the trailer the next day and it lived 5 more seasons till I replaced it *precautionarily* last year... LOL

Felpro still sucks, its a graphite gasket that just can't take the pressure or abuse.

The vendors should stock some or go Cometic.

These cars are losing their appeal. Either I use a shitty gasket, or pay $120 for a good one. I think I'll just stick with a shitty gasket.

You can certainly get the gasket by itself.

when you order a 9296pt thats not the gasket that comes, the typical crappy graphite one comes. I looked around last night and still couldnt find the set that it comes in. Simon, its not a graphite gasket, its built very close to a MP gasket.
