    6500980 Retaining ring

    FINAL UPDATE / PRICING INFORMATION

$10 each, all shipping included for 1-7 pieces.
For quantity greater than 8 pieces or shipping outside of the 48 states please contact me for a quote. Parts are available for ordering as of December 7th 2011.

To purchase these please contact me via PM.

    Update: 12-7-11

There are two things about the replacement rings I am addressing so there are no suprises or concerns about fitment or functionality.

-The replacement rings were made using a coiling wire method, not stamped from flat stock like the oem originals. So they will appear ever so slightly twisted and not flat if placed on a flat surface. Once installed they will sit flat and do the job exactly per the originals. Benefits included no tooling charge and they are (as claimed by mfg) to be stronger since they are made with the grain of the metal and not cutting across it.

-The end gap may appear to be excessively larger than the originals, its not. The inside gap is exactly the same as compared against 3 NOS original rings. The mfg does not put as sharp of an angled cut on these like the originals. so the outside gap is slightly larger but that will not affect strength or function. When installed for the first time these snap down and lock in place nice and tight, as they should.

    Re: 6500980 snap ring

The 523/568/543 use 1. The 89 520/555 use 1 also. There maybe a few oddball ducks like the 555 used in the minivans (87-88 internals) and the later 525's that are supposedly 520 internals for the same year of which I honestly dont know much about.

Basically if the input shaft uses a big nut to hold the 5th gear on, it only uses 1.

This is a nos one. replacements would be a plain finish, its in an oil bath enviroment so theres no need to spend more for a zinc or black oxide coating.

Thanks for the support guys. Dont want to speak too early and make promises I cant deliver on, but I think we may have this one in the bag.

Monday will be the final review with the mfg to ensure everything is good to go and to get things more finalized. Cross your fingers and toes that no earth shattering natural or political disasters occur for the next 8 weeks.

Another company is being contacted to get a quote. The first company has decided to not return communications, their loss not ours.

    Re: 6500980 snap ring

Bringing this back up to the top. Now that the BS of the last 5 months has passed...

---Is there still any interest in getting these made ?---

Trying to keep the pricing @ $15 for the first (postage included) and each additional one $1. I will have more finalized pricing on monday if the company can get me a quote over the phone. Hoping to get the prices down slightly, those prices are on the high end of the estimate.

    spec sheet:

Not necessarily the company I planned to use (they were the first quote and it was too high IMO) but they do have a nice ring builder program that is free to use and makes things easier to explain.

3 companies to call tomorrow. I hope I like what they have to say.

If this venture goes skyward there just might be hope for a few other things simmering on the back burners here
