    Potting compound crumbling ???

I just bought a SBEC from the yard (90 T1 auto) and upon removal from the case I have noticed the potting compound is starting to crumble and easily peel off compared to all my other sbecs which the stuff is like concrete and wont go without a fight.
Did I just buy myself a nice paperweight ? Do not want to sell it if this is a sign of something like overheating or some other internal failure causing this stuff to turn to dust.

Sounds like the mix was off, with a bit too much catalysis... Or not enough...

It's probably ok, but if you have a choice, I'd get one that's more to your liking.

I can usually rub a lot of it off with some effort. I wouldn't call it crumbling though.

I've seen it happen. I've also seen some where part of the stuff is still sticky wet. I think it must have been hand-mixed. And, they seem to have gotten it wrong at times. I wonder if that's more prevalent on the reman computers?

I guess that would be more appropriate a description.
