    568 Diff Bearing Cup Removal

Anyone have any suggestions to removing the bearing cups for the diff other than the Miller L-4518 tool. hoping not to spend the $100 bucks if at all possible.

Some of them look amenable to tackling with concrete or drywall anchors, but ain't seen 568 bits up close.

... or sometimes you can do stuff like cross the legs of ordinary pullers or use damper pullers with heads down bolts and washers... where either the head or head + washer grips round the rim.... then to keep legs from spreading on an external pull use beefy hose clamps...

.. and more thoughts, don't forget to misuse and abuse bushing presses, large sockets, long lengths of threaded rod and sections of fence post or other rigid tube... always found me a way.. somehow.

The design of the differential cups prevents access from the back to press these out. a small 3 jaw puller might work if you could get a good bite on the backside of the race but good luck with that.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. The one in the steel housing could be pressed out the back with the correct size piece to push on the back. The aluminum section is a different story where some sort of puller is needed.

If you heat it up it should fall out.

The bearing race in the aluminum housing will fall out if heated. They fall out on me all the time when I weld aluminum motorcycle cases.

Too bad you are not closer to me. I have most of what you need. If you do need a puller, check out an automotive machine shop.
Or I could mail you one.

Does the 8171 work for for the diff bearing cups? those are a lot cheaper than the 4518's I was looking at.

Check out the specs for the 42LE diff bearings and see how close they are. If they are fairly close it should work.

I will double check. Is the bearing on the 568 the same size as the A413 diff? I am thinking it is.

Try turning the aluminum housing containing the race upside down on a hot plate and heat. The race should fall out or require little pressure to push it out.

I'd also try a tripod of dowels, and either stand it on them and bop the backside with a mallet, or the other way up and pile books on it...

For ours they are. the later ones used a bigger bearing on the d-side.

Sorry, It is a little to big for the small bearing race. This one will work, if you have a slide hammer puller for it I can mail it to you. I think it is 3/4" NPT.

One of my friends works at a Nissan Dealership that is partners with a dodge dealership so he's going to see of any of the techs will loan him the tool if they have it.
