Two head bolt torque values in 86 manual...

As usual, every step of the way I have conflict. In the 1986 FSM, it lists two different sequences for torquing the 11mm head bolts on my T1 block. One is in Figure 8, and the other is in the text:

    Figure 8:
    1. 41 N-m
    2. 61 N-m
    3. 61 N-m
    4. + 1/4 turn

    Text, right underneath the figure:
    1. 61 N-m
    2. 88 N-m
    3. 88 N-m
    4. +1/4 turn

I am sure this is a known problem, but my search turned up nothing yet... so which one is it?

    Thanks!

Is one a dry value and the other coated with oil maybe?

I think one is for the 10mm head bolts. 45 foot pounds + 1/4turn.
    61Nm = 45 foot pounds 88Nm = 65 foot pounds.
If you have 11mm head bolts, use the second procedure. Ending at 65 foot pounds + 1/4 turn.

I dont have the N-m to ft-lb conversion, but 11mm Head Bolts is typically:

    45 ft-lb
    65 ft-lb
    65 ft-lb
    + 1/4 Turn

Just looked in my manual and you are correct sir!
Use the second one for the 11mm head bolts.

Ok - got it! second chart for 11mm. I guess they never updated the Figure from the older manual?

And yes, its 65 ft-lbs in the end, +1/4 turn.

    Thanks! Back to work then!
