Lowered the Old 1980 Dodge Truck

I am almost finished lowering my 1980 D150. My Chargers have been on the backburner. I used B-series van lower control arms in front and flipped the rear axle. The front dropped around 3" and the rear dropped around 6". The gap between the top of the tires and the bottom of the fender opening is the same front to back.

What do you think? Does it need to go down a little in front? I think that it appears slightly higher in front even though it is actually level

Sorry about the terrible pictures. I had to lighten them up a bit. It is raining right now and my camera doesn't take good pictures in my basement's low light. I'll take some better pictures when I get the chance. If you can get a good deal from Target Ad, never miss that.

    After:

I also have a set of these to go on the truck. I just gotta get some tires.

front almost always has a larger wheel opening cause the wheels turn, looks good, another 1.5" wouldnt hurt though

Oh, I thought I might have some red X's showing up or something. It's low enough for me. I may cut the coils up front. Just looking at the truck, it appears that the front is higher than the rear even though they are dead even. Maybe it will be better when I get my new wheels and tires on it.

Looks great! I need to drop all my trucks. BTW I have an '80 shortbed too, but mine has a stepside bed and a S6 4-spd OD. I'm the opposite of you, I've had the trucks on the backburner for a while so I could mess w/ the Daytona.

Got any pictures? Swap a 440 in!

The funny thing is I don't hate the "imitation street stars" as bad since I lowered it. I might could have lived with them a little longer. Oh well, I think the slot mags will make the truck look tons better.

I am going to finish up (paint shocks, weld spring perches to rear axle, tighten a couple bolts) Saturday and try to get it in the alignment shop on my day off next week.

I got some on my computer (on the shop computer now), I'll post them later. I do actually have a 440 in the corner of my shop But it's slated to go in my Coronet, unless I sell it or get a 68 Charger My plan for the '80 is to turbo and EFI the S6

Well I'll have to get some new pics, I don't have what I thought I did I'll take a couple of my other trucks too. I have a '93 5.2 5-spd shortbed and a '72 D100 longbed also. 318 and 5-spd swap in the '72 also.

Re: Lowered the Old 1980 Dodge Truck

This is when I first got it

This picture is at new england dragway a couple years ago. I only lowered the front at this point using 1 ton control arms (approximent 3" drop) later I dropped the rear using chevy lift shackels and raised the front 1" with a spring Isolater, it was just too low for New england roads.

the final ride height I think was a 2" drop in the front and a 3" in the rear I think.

The 440 (at the time it had a 727)

I love to paint engine parts, absolutly hate painting body panel haha.

Re: Lowered the Old 1980 Dodge Truck

I put some better pictures in the post above. I bolted the rear shocks on and took it for a drive around the block. The right front has settled down a little, so I won't be cutting any coil springs. I'm satisfied with the stance. I'm going to make sure all the bolts are tightened, weld the spring perches to the rear axle, and try to get the front end aligned next week.
