    Wiper Motor Diagnostic

Trying to get my the wipers to work on the newest Omni in my fleet. The Omni is a 1979 and it looks like the changed the wiper motor design in 85. The car has a T1 engine in it so the plug for the wiper motor is different.

I have two power wires (one switched, one constant with the key one) and two grounds. I hooked it up with all the different variations that would work with out popping the fuse. I tried grounding the motor better and still no luck. I'm leaning towards that the motor itself is bad, but I was wondering how to test the motor and if anyone knows the proper hookup for this motor.

I tried jumping 12v to all the four plugs and nothing.

    Here are some pictures:

I have no idea for the plug business, but it actually grounds through the bracket I believe. I ran a 10ga wire from the bolt that holds the wiper motor to the bracket to the strut tower bolt for a ground and that worked great.

I try again to ground using the bracket. I just grounded it via the small screw on the end of the motor.

When I ground the motor it pops the fuse... Does anyone have access to a 79 FSM for wiring to make sure I have it hooked up right? Hopefully the wire colors are the same for a 86 wiring harness. Any other ideas before I drop $60 on a new motor?

    Re: Wiper Motor Diagnostic

I got a new motor tonight and installed it. I added a proper ground and it now when I turn on with the key the wipers stay running. I still need to try a few more variations on how I hook the wires up at the motor. I pulled the internment wiper control plug off and the same thing happens. I'm thinking that the wires to the wiper motor are still hooked up wrong. Well, back at it. LMK if anyone has any ideas on what to do next. Good times!

I had the same issue when I put a different motor into my shadow recently. When I hooked it up with direct power to the motor it would run all the time it was plugged in. regardless of where the switch was at. I had to manually turn it on and off by applying power to the motor under the hood. I'm thinking the ground location for the motor is obviously how it's controlled on that front.
