Fsm direction is based upon the intermediate shaft not being installed so with the differential/ring gear installed they arnt meshed with anything else giving a false reading.
Yup not cheap, but nice tq wrenches! Small tip, of course I need a .003 shim and only had .005, so I took the factory shim which is like a .055 thick and found a nice flat surface. I put down some 180 grit sand paper and brought it down to size. Make sure to turn it often and keep the pressure even, but .003 doesnt take too long and it was within <.0005 variation. Its kinda tuff to holdon to but it can be donw.
I set it by feel, lol, you want it to have a bit of resistance, but I've been doing this along time.
As said, remove the ring gear unless your pinion shaft isn't installed.

A dial type torque wrench would be easier to read but they usually cost alot more and dont come up for sale as often.
