    Tensioner Pulley sheared off, um where the tension is.

    (the 1994 lebaron gtc)

    Ok this morning, lost power steering, battery started losing power, and then CLUNK! DING! lost the tensioner pulley out from under the car. the haynes manual I got, says nothing about replacing a pulley. Any suggestions?

    Just go and get a tensioner for it from the parts store. Not the pulley, but the whole tensioner.

    Common as hell, just replace the whole unit as mentioned.

    Now it sounds easy but doesn't look easy. there is only one bolt holding the tensioner to the car. that bolt broke. not the bolt for the pulley but the long one on the back that goes to the block. I can't even reach in there to see.

    It's actually held on with a nut., the stud part is part of the tensioner. It's aligned by a small tab and tightened with one nut.

    How do you get to the nut though? I will take a better look but I can't see the backside where the nut would be.

    I won't tell you it's easy. I used a 3 foot extension and a flex 15mm socket from underneath (with a hoist)

    Its not that bad, it looks worse than it is, but like shadow88 mentioned, swivels etc make it easier.

    couldn't get to it from the bottom so I removed the alt and air box. was a breeze. Now i gotta wait for morning to tackle the belt. I must have fought with it for an hour. jesus christ there is no room to get anything in there... I've done it before because i changed out the alt twice, and had to when i did the water pump... but man its a pain.
