Looks VERY nice! Well, except the engine bay, but at least it's got the V-6, dirty though it may be!

If I wasn't eyeball deep in TMs, I'd probably have one as a project...

The engine bay will be steam cleaned as soon as I get back to Nebraska. I'm working in Georgia right now, so it's at the shop getting struts/shocks and a general tune up.
Its super clean, all around (minus the engine bay), and runs like a top. It had one broken strut and idled at 2500RPM, but that's all being fixed.

    Stock ones, I'm sure.

This car is so much fun to drive, such an upgrade from my neon. I have zero issues passing people now and I get ricers revving their motors at me again!

From what I can tell it just controls the bass levels, but I can't find much information on it and neither of my dads fieros had that option.

I think .07% had engine fires.
All of them that had fires were the four cylinders as well.

That was pretty interesting. I could tell that the person writing the article wasn't too fond of fieros, but to each their own. You can't beat the price I paid for this car, especially considering I drove it a thousand miles while I was home with few issues.

I just bought an 88' Formula basket case with a spare 88' chassis. I think these cars are way cool. You can swap in a modern 60* V6 like the 3400...they are like fleas in the junkyard. Good choice on the car!

looks to be in great shape!! those are such fun little cars. feels like driving a go-kart. I used to have a silver '86 with the v6. You can do a lot with those cars.. I think my favorite ones are the v8's. LOL. I thought I remember seeing someone with a turbo v6, as well.

the fire thing to fieros is like crankwalk to dsms or the fires in the z31 300zx's.. a small number were affected and it was blown out of proportion. But that's typical.

The yellow fiero website is pretty neat. Some interesting videos of the Pontiac in action, including one of it doing a top speed run on the Autobahn...that highway must be incredibly deadly because of how speed kills <insert sarcasm>

Congrats on your car, that 2.8 is a good engine

I bought a rough old 4cly once... and drove it home... I had to stop three times due to a leaking VC and debris under the hood to put out the fire... true story.. It was frign funny really....

After that was fixed it was a fun little car though.. and no more problems..

A 3.4 with some kind of forced induction would be awesome...

The 3.8 SC ones get out of their own way quite nicely too!

Or go stealth and drop a 3.4 into it, they are just a bored and stroked 2.8L/3.1L! And you can find them cheap in PAP, they put them in lots of stuff, vans pop to mind...

I will say that, given a choice, I'd prefer an 88 GT or formula. In true GM fashion, once they actually got the formula right (decent engine/trans AND suspension), they kill it! I still think the turbo'd Quad 4 would have been a screamer!

I was thinking a 3900 V6. 233 hp with out the added plumbing. I agree, but even without the turbo, the HO Quad would have screamed!!

Re: New car: 1987 Pontiac Fiero SE

Any updates? I like these old fieros. The interiors are cool and they definitely handle well. They even came with a getrag gearset trans similar in strength to the 555 in some years. The 3.4 or even getting a turbo 3.1 setup bolted onto the 3.4 would be great. If they move the heavy slomaro around I imagine they would be plenty in a light car like a fiero. I've got a friend who is really into these car and once drove to Utah with a car hauler to get several of them. Let me know if you ever need any parts and I can give you his contact info.
