    Such a deal! 8 valve conical springs

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS2-V...Q5fCarQ5fParts

    $50

    Most people running conicals on the 8 valve head are buying the COMP springs which are very nice, but the price is kinda steep for a budget minded Turbo-Mopar enthusiast.

    The stock LS2 spring which is the replacement spring for a Z06 can handle an agressive roller up to .570". Mind you it's 1.80" installed height. The 8 valve installed height is 1.65". The coil bind of this LS2 spring is 1.08". Most spring vendors recommend .050" to .100" safe margin before coil bind. This leaves a safe lift margin of .520"-.470".

    The valves are the same length as a stock Magnum V6/V8. The valve sizes are 2.00"/1.55". The locks/retainers are 7 degree, but the locks are the round bead like a Magnum (intake?) valve. The stem size is .312/.313" (8mm) common to 2.2/2.5, Magnum, 5.7/6.1 HEMI, and LS engines.

    I ordered a set for a Magnum engine to get the big intake valves, and seals. I'll try the springs on my 2.2 that is being built.

    Are they made of round or eleptical wire? I don't think they would work for my cam, which is a .551.

    I could not find out that piece of information. We'll see when they show up at the door. Running a .551" cam would require REALLY good stuff like you are running IMO. You are right, the safe lift range is .470"-.520", out of your lift range.

ID:	29637 very impressed with the packaging. All of the bags were heat sealed. The parts are indeed new and not run. There are no signs of ever being run.

    WoW! That post loaded very weird.

    Tomorrow I will test the springs @ an 8valve installed height (1.65") and .500" lift.

    Re: Such a deal! 8 valve conical springs

    Tested the springs and found coil bind @ 1.10" instead of 1.08". This would make .500" the max lift to use with these springs. I will mock up a cylinder head when time allows in order to prove the retainer and installed height.

    1.65" = 140lbs.
    1.20" = 330lbs.
    1.15" = 350lbs.

    THESE ARE NOT A DROP IN! It turned out to be a really good deal for a 5.9L Magnum engine build for a friend.

    Re: Such a deal! 8 valve conical springs

    Retainers are a different angle, not the 8 degree like an 8 valve. The springs would require the head to be machined to fit around the guide. The COMP stuff will fit, however, the factory LS parts will not.

    LS springs, locks, retainers, stem seals, and intake valves make great Magnum V8 upgrade/replacement parts.
