    Klunety klunk klunk

    Ok Gang!
I drive a 95 grand caravan 3.3 with 142k on it. In january it started KLUNKIN!
It sounds big , like a 2lb mallet hittin sumpin solid.Right under the gas pedal, behind the speedo.
BUT only when the front suspension is unloaded. Like nuetral posistion or extended.(goin up hill or under acceleration) when I'm alone in the van.
Down hill, under braking, or even if someone is in the passenger seat, NUTHIN.
I've replaced Struts & mounts, brakes, rotors, bearing hubs, axles, swaybar bushings, 3 new motor mounts.
The ball joints are good, its been aligned. And holds it. No shimmies ,no drift. No play in the steering, no play in the control arms.
I've centered the motor, and did encounter a lot of axle movement. The outer shaft slid in far enough to cover the threads.
So whatcha think! Anyone have experience with "short axles"?

sounds like an axle issue to me..

how did you center the engine? Were you able to "cover the threads" on both sides?

Someone shove the wrong axle in there somehow?

    My thoughts too .
I Loosened the mounts, loosened the axle nuts. Depress the axle end, look for min of 5/8 in play both sides. But the axles push in way past that spec. They're both Advance" lifetime" axles, bout a year old.I replaced the short one already. I've noticed a little ATF spray recently around the seal/cv hub.

Broken sway bar? could be a bad passenger axle.

I had a similar sound on my 99 stratus. One of the bolts holding the lower control arm on was loose.

On the ball joint bolts, the torque spec is high. Make sure they are at spec, even just a little loose they will make clunk noises.

I had a tie rod end fail one and that was really loud too. You didn't mention replacing them, something else to check.

Also check the torque on the four bolts that hold the steering rack to the k-frame, seen them come loose and make a lot of noise.

I've got a"temporary fix" in place. A deep cycle battery and a bucket-o-pennies on the pass floor. About 120lbs
No klunety klunk! The balljoints are tight ,and don't exhibit any play.
