    oil drain plug gasket?

I've got my oil currently draining while at work today and am wondering if there is some type of gasket that I should use on this drain plug. I know that my 99 Corolla has one that I have to replace every so often or else the plug will leak little by little.

I've never had good luck with the seperate gasket style drain plugs, they always seep oil. Go to the dealer and get an OEM one, the gasket is built into the plug and never leaks.

    Re: oil drain plug gasket?

Worked in a quick lube of for a lot of years, for our cars the thick nylon gaskets work great on the older factory plugs or newer replacements. They last for quite a while too. The newer style Chrysler ones are nice with the built in rubber gasket also, just more money, most quick lubes will probably have both on hand, and if I remember correctly the 2.2 pans have 1/2" threads (a lot of the newer stuff is 14mm, or 12mm like your toyota).

Toyota used a fiber type of gasket that usually only lasted a few oil changes, but they do seal well when they are new.

Whatever the thread size is, its common to alot of newer chryslers. Even the fleabag local dealer keeps them stocked for $7.00 each.

Felpro makes a nice metal gasket with a rubber inner, that's what I use and no chance of over tightening and pulling out the threads like you can with a plastic gasket. GM has the same washer but twice the price,
